The Amalfi Coast road (Strada Statale 163) is one of the most dramatic drives in Europe. On a scooter you feel every twist and switchback as cliff-top villages appear through the sea mist and the Mediterranean glitters hundreds of metres below. From Sorrento you can reach Positano in under 30 minutes, Praiano in 45 and Amalfi town in around an hour — journey times that no bus can match. Browse all our rental options and check current availability.
Vespa rental in Sorrento is available for all experience levels. If you have ridden a scooter before, you will feel at home immediately on our automatic 50cc and 125cc models. More experienced riders can opt for a 150cc or 250cc machine with additional torque for hill climbs. Our fleet is serviced every 2,000 km and inspected before every rental. All bikes come fitted with anti-theft locks, mirrors and a USB charging port for navigation.
A typical day trip from Sorrento by scooter might take you south along the coast to Positano for a morning coffee and a swim at Spiaggia Grande, east through Praiano to Amalfi for lunch at a harbourside restaurant, then inland via Ravello for panoramic views before the return along the mountain road through Colli di Fontanella. This circular route covers around 70 km — easily achievable in a day with time to stop for photos and gelato. Explore more route ideas.
Driving licence requirements for scooter rental in Italy depend on engine size. A valid car driving licence (category B) is sufficient for scooters up to 125cc. For machines 150cc and above, you need a motorcycle licence (category A or A2). All international driving licences are accepted. Riders must be at least 18 years old. If you are unsure which licence category you hold, our team will advise you when you collect the scooter.
Safety on the Amalfi Coast roads demands extra care. The SP366 and SS163 carry a mix of tourist coaches, local delivery vans and pedestrians crossing the road to photograph the views. Tips for safe riding: always ride in the centre of your lane so larger vehicles do not overtake you in tunnels; use your horn on blind hairpin bends; never tailgate coaches on descents; and stop at wide points to let buses pass. Our rental team will brief you on current road conditions and any temporary closures before you set off.
The best season for scooter hire in Sorrento runs from April through October. May, June and September offer the ideal combination of warm weather, manageable traffic and dry roads. July and August are peak season — glorious but congested, especially on the main coast road between 10:00 and 18:00. Starting early (before 09:00) or returning after 19:00 transforms the experience. Pair your scooter hire with a private boat charter for a full day of coastal freedom.

Preguntas frecuentes
Preguntas frecuentes
How much does scooter rental in Sorrento cost?
Scooter rental in Sorrento starts from €45 per day for a 50cc automatic. A 125cc model costs around €55–€65 per day. Larger 150–250cc bikes range from €75–€90 per day. Weekly rates offer a 15–20% discount. Helmets, basic insurance and a fuel allowance are included in all daily rates.
Do I need a motorcycle licence to rent a scooter in Sorrento?
For scooters up to 125cc, a valid car driving licence (category B) is sufficient under Italian law. For bikes 150cc and above you need a motorcycle licence (A or A2). All international driving licences are accepted. Minimum age is 18 years.
What is included in the scooter rental price?
The daily rate includes: a full-face helmet for each rider, third-party liability insurance, a local route map, a fuel allowance for the first 30 km, anti-theft lock and a 24-hour roadside assistance number. A refundable security deposit of €100–€200 is held at pickup.
Is it safe to ride a scooter on the Amalfi Coast?
The Amalfi Coast roads are winding and narrow but perfectly manageable for confident riders. The main risks are tourist coaches on tight bends and gravel after rain. We provide a pre-ride safety briefing and recommend riding in the mornings or evenings to avoid peak coach traffic. Travel insurance with motorcycle cover is strongly recommended.
Can I ride from Sorrento to Positano by scooter?
Yes — Sorrento to Positano by scooter takes approximately 25–35 minutes via the SP366. The road climbs over the Lattari ridge before descending dramatically into Positano. The views from the top are extraordinary. Parking in Positano is limited: use the municipal car park above the village and walk down.
What happens if I get a puncture or breakdown?
All BlueKeys scooter rentals include 24-hour roadside assistance. In the event of a puncture or mechanical failure, call the number on your rental agreement and a technician will come to you, usually within 60–90 minutes. You will not be charged for mechanical issues unrelated to misuse.
When is the best time to rent a scooter in Sorrento?
April, May, June and September are ideal — warm, dry and manageable traffic. July and August are beautiful but the Amalfi Coast road becomes very busy mid-morning. We recommend starting before 09:00 in peak season to enjoy the road before the coaches arrive. October is lovely for foliage and empty roads, though some restaurants begin closing.
