Civitavecchia to Rome transfer

The train is the cheap option. A regional ticket from Civitavecchia to Rome costs €4.60 at a fixed fare, with two or three departures an hour: about 50 to 60 minutes to Roma San Pietro, the Vatican stop, and 75 to 85 minutes to Roma Termini (Trenitalia, checked July 2026).

The time the ticket does not show is spent in the port. Cruise ships dock inside it, so you first take the free shuttle from the berth to Largo della Pace, every 20 to 25 minutes (Port Mobility), then walk 15 to 20 minutes to the station or take the €6 station bus. From the gangway to the platform count 30 to 45 minutes, and from the ship to central Rome 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes.

A private transfer skips those steps and drives you to your address in Rome. It costs more than the train, and the price is per vehicle, not per person: a group travelling together shares one fare.

If Rome is a day trip from your cruise, the part that matters is the way back. By train, plan to be in Civitavecchia at least two hours before all aboard: a late regional train will not hold the ship.
