There is no finer way to end a day on the Amalfi Coast than watching the sun dip below the horizon from the deck of a boat. The limestone cliffs glow amber and gold, the sea turns molten, and the villages light up one by one along the darkening shoreline. BlueKeys offers sunset cruises departing from Positano, Amalfi and Sorrento every evening from May through October.

A sunset cruise along the Amalfi Coast is one of the most magical experiences available in southern Italy, and what makes it unique is the way the limestone cliffs act as a natural amphitheatre for the setting sun. As the light drops, the towering rock faces shift through a palette of amber, gold, rose and deep violet, while the villages perched above glow like lanterns against the darkening sky. Unlike a daytime boat tour focused on covering distance, a sunset cruise is about slowing down, savouring the moment and watching the coastline reveal colours that only appear in the final hours of the day. Departures run between 17:00 and 18:00 depending on the month, from Positano, Amalfi or Sorrento. You board a classic gozzo or a modern open-deck vessel, settle into cushioned seating and receive a welcome glass of chilled prosecco as the boat glides away from the harbour. The skipper follows the coast past sea stacks, hidden grottoes and cliff-side restaurants where diners wave from their terraces. Browse all our tours.
Everything you need for a perfect evening is included on board. Guests are welcomed with prosecco or Aperol Spritz, followed by a spread of local appetisers — bruschetta with ripe tomatoes, marinated Cetara anchovies, creamy buffalo mozzarella bites and fresh seasonal fruit. Chilled water, soft drinks and a second round of prosecco are complimentary. During the cruise the skipper anchors in a calm bay for a swimming stop bathed in golden-hour light — the water is warm, the backdrop is the glowing coastline and the experience photographs beautifully but feels even better in person. Snorkelling gear with masks and fins is available if you want to explore the rocky seabed, and soft towels are provided for drying off before the aperitivo continues. BlueKeys can also arrange special touches for proposals, anniversaries or birthdays: champagne, a decorated cake, fresh flowers or a musician waiting at the dock on your return.
Route highlights vary by departure point. From Positano the boat passes the Li Galli islands silhouetted against the sunset, then continues toward Praiano where the cliff-top church catches the last golden rays. From Amalfi the route sweeps past the Emerald Grotto entrance and the Furore Fjord, both transformed by the warm evening light. From Sorrento the cruise hugs the coastline toward Massa Lubrense with views of Capri across the shimmering strait. Whichever port you choose, the finale is the same — the sun slipping below the horizon, the sky turning from orange to purple, and the first lights of the villages flickering on along the shore.
The best time of year for a sunset cruise is June through September, when skies are reliably clear and the golden hour stretches longest. June offers warm evenings with thinner crowds, July and August provide the hottest water for the swimming stop, and September combines comfortable temperatures with spectacular light. May and October are also possible though evenings are cooler and the cruise may be shorter. Booking two to three days in advance is recommended in high season; last-minute availability is sometimes possible on weekdays.
Booking with BlueKeys takes just a few minutes: select your date and preferred departure port on our website, confirm instantly and receive a digital voucher with meeting-point details. Arrive at the harbour fifteen minutes before departure. Bring a light cardigan or windbreaker because temperatures drop noticeably once the sun dips below the horizon and the sea breeze picks up. Sunglasses, reef-safe sunscreen and a camera or phone with good low-light performance are essential. A private sunset charter starts from around €350 and lets you choose the route, the music and every detail of the evening — ideal for couples or intimate celebrations. Group cruises carrying six to ten guests start from about €65 per person and are a sociable, affordable way to enjoy the coast. Combine your cruise with a holiday home in Positano or a Sorrento apartment for the complete Amalfi Coast experience.
