Positano is unlike anywhere else on the Amalfi Coast. Its stacked pastel houses cascade down a cliff face to a pebble beach, the stairways are lined with bougainvillea and lemon trees, and nearly every window frames a postcard view of the Tyrrhenian Sea. BlueKeys lists hand-picked villas, apartments and holiday homes in Positano, personally checked for view quality, location accuracy and host responsiveness — starting from €120 per night.

The key decision when booking in Positano is location on the slope. Upper Positano (Via Cristoforo Colombo and above) is quieter, cooler in summer and typically 20–30% less expensive than the seafront. Lower Positano, within walking distance of Spiaggia Grande beach, commands premium prices but saves on the relentless stair-climbing that defines every Positano stay. Browse all Positano properties to compare views, price and position on the hill.
Private villas in Positano with a pool are the most sought-after properties on the coast. Most are carved into the clifftop with terraces cantilevered over the sea — a dramatic setting for morning coffee and sunset aperitivo. Pools tend to be compact (plunge or dipping size) due to the steep terrain, but the view compensates entirely. Prices for a well-positioned pool villa range from €350 to €1,500 per night depending on size and season.
Apartments and holiday homes offer better value for visitors on a budget or staying for a week or more. Many are in restored historic buildings with original stone floors, vaulted ceilings and private terraces with sea views. A two-bedroom apartment in the centre of Positano with a terrace typically costs €180–€350 per night. Self-catering is easy: the morning fish market on Spiaggia Grande is a Positano institution, and the village has several high-quality delis and grocery shops.
Getting around Positano is entirely on foot or by small boat. There are no cars in the town centre — luggage is carried by porters, often on small hand-carts. If you are arriving from Naples Airport, booking a private transfer to Positano (approximately €130–€160) is by far the easiest option. The car drops you at the top of the village and a porter meets you to take luggage to your door.
Positano's social scene centres on Spiaggia Grande beach and the cluster of restaurants, bars and boutiques around it. The best tables at sunset fill up by 7pm in high season — book dinner at least 24 hours ahead. For a quieter meal, climb to the upper village where a handful of excellent family-run trattorias cater more to residents than tourists. La Tagliata, a short drive above the village, is a local legend for its fixed-menu feast with panoramic views.
Day trips from Positano are excellent. Boat tours along the coast depart from Spiaggia Grande daily and can be arranged through your host or directly with us. The Path of the Gods walking trail starts nearby at Nocelle and offers the most spectacular coastal hiking in the region. Alternatively, the Li Galli islands — former home of Rudolf Nureyev — are a 20-minute boat ride away, with pristine snorkelling in a marine protected area.
BlueKeys recommends booking Positano stays at least 3–4 months ahead for July and August. The village has a finite supply of quality accommodation, and the best properties are reserved by repeat visitors or through agencies well in advance. For September and June, 6–8 weeks is usually sufficient. Our concierge team can advise on the current availability and suggest alternatives in nearby Praiano if Positano is fully booked during your dates.

FAQ
Lower Positano (Spiaggia Grande area) is ideal for beach access and the main restaurants, but it is expensive and very busy. Upper Positano (Via Colombo and above) is quieter, with the same views but a longer walk to the beach. For a compromise, look for properties on Via Pasitea in the middle zone — good access, reasonable prices and excellent views.
Budget options (studio apartments, upper village location) start from around €120/night. Mid-range apartments with sea view terraces range from €180–€350/night. Clifftop villas with pools are typically €350–€900/night. In July and August, all prices increase by 30–50% over June/September rates.
The easiest way is a private transfer (approximately 75–90 minutes, €130–€160 for up to 4 passengers). Public options include the SITA bus from Sorrento or the ferry from Naples (seasonal). The drive along the Amalfi Coast road is spectacular but demanding — a private driver is strongly recommended for first-time visitors.
Positano can be challenging for families with young children due to the steep stairs everywhere — prams and buggies are impractical. However, the beach is popular with families, and the warm, shallow water near the shore is ideal for children. Older children who can walk independently (8+) typically love Positano for the boat trips and beach activities.
Late May, June and September are ideal. The weather is warm (24–28°C), the sea is perfect for swimming, the restaurants are all open, and crowds are noticeably thinner than peak summer. October is beautiful for hiking and food. July and August are peak season — vibrant but very crowded and hot.
Yes, Positano has several grocery shops, a bakery, a pharmacy, a weekly market (Thursday morning) and excellent delicatessens. Prices are higher than the mainland due to the transport costs of bringing goods down the cliff. The morning fish market on the beach is the best place to buy fresh seafood directly from local fishermen.
Yes, small gozzo boats can be rented from the beach without a licence (under 40hp). For larger boats or day trips around the coast, BlueKeys arranges [private charters](/services/private-boats) with experienced local skippers. The most popular routes are to the Li Galli islands, the Emerald Grotto and the Amalfi coast villages.
All our boats are fully licensed and insured. Skippers are local professionals with years of experience navigating the Amalfi Coast. Free cancellation up to 48 hours before departure.
