Palermo Airport to Menfi: Bus and Transfer Guide 2026

There is a direct coach from Palermo airport to Menfi — EUR 9.10, one hour twenty, no changes — but it runs four times a day on weekdays, twice on Sundays, and nothing at all lands you there before 14:40. Here is the real timetable, the second journey down to Porto Palo that nobody plans, and the honest case for every option.

Quick answer — Palermo Falcone-Borsellino (PMO) to Menfi

  • There is a direct bus: Autolinee Gallo, airport to Menfi, no stops, €9.10, 1 hour 20 minutes
  • Four departures a day on weekdays — 13:20, 14:55, 21:05, 23:00 — and only two on Sundays, 13:20 and 21:05
  • Nothing lands you in Menfi before 14:40. A morning flight means a long wait, or a change in Palermo
  • No train. Menfi lost its railway in 1986; the nearest working station is Castelvetrano, about 21 km away
  • Menfi town is not the beach. Porto Palo is 8 km further, Lido Fiori sits out on the same coast, and outside summer only two local buses a day run that line

The direct bus is real, and for many people it is the right answer

Start with the good news, because it is better than most people expect. Autolinee Gallo runs a coach from Palermo Falcone-Borsellino to Menfi with no intermediate stop, on the line marked PALERMO-APT–MENFI–SCIACCA–RIBERA: it starts at Palermo Terminal Bus, calls at the airport, then runs straight down. The fare is €9.10 adult one way on every direct run, and it takes 1 hour 20 minutes outbound, 1 hour 15 on the 13:00 return.

Put that next to the car: airport to the Menfi stop is about 102 km and roughly 1 hour 28 minutes of driving on clear roads. The coach takes the A29 motorway and does not stop, so it is barely slower than driving yourself — unusual in western Sicily, where public transport normally pays for its cheap ticket in hours. It is new: two extra daily pairs between Sciacca and Palermo airport via the A29, calling at Menfi, arrived on 14 July 2025. If you researched this journey two years ago and concluded it needed a car, that has changed.

The airport says Gallo services for Sciacca, Menfi and Ribera sell on board. They are also sold online, through a booking system that shows live seat counts run by run — worth opening for your own date and departure before you count on boarding at the airport, and buying online does confirm the run operates that day. At the airport the bus stops are on the ground floor of the arrivals hall, on your right as you come out, signed.

Checked 12 August 2026: line, fare, time and ticketing from the Autolinee Gallo timetable engine and online booking; airport stops from aeroportodipalermo.it; the July 2025 increase from In3Minuti, local news quoting the operator — a secondary source.

Four departures a day, and the hours they leave uncovered

This is the part that decides your day, so here are the times. On a weekday — Thursday 20 August 2026 — the direct departures are:

  • 13:20, arriving 14:40
  • 14:55, arriving 16:15
  • 21:05, arriving 22:25
  • 23:00, arriving 00:20

On Sundays the four become two: 13:20 and 21:05, checked on Sunday 23 August 2026. And this is not a summer arrangement that collapses in October: the same four runs at the same €9.10 appear on Wednesday 18 November 2026.

The problem is not frequency, it is shape. What is missing is the whole morning: if your flight lands at 08:30, as many into Palermo do, the first direct bus leaves nearly five hours later. There is a second hole in the middle — after the 14:55 you wait until 21:05, so an arrival between roughly 15:00 and 20:30 has nothing direct either.

The workaround is to break the journey in two: airport to Palermo Terminal Bus, €1.30, 55 minutes, then Palermo Terminal Bus to Menfi, €7.80. From the city there are seven weekday departures — 12:30, 12:30, 14:00, 14:50, 18:00, 20:15 and 22:15 — taking 1 hour 25 to 2 hours 15 depending on whether that run detours via the airport. Note the first is 12:30: splitting the journey does not rescue a morning landing, it fills the late-afternoon gap. The terminus, Palermo Terminal Bus in Via Fazello, is about 130 metres from Palermo Centrale station, so arriving by train and leaving by coach involves no real transfer. The airport's other link to the city is the Prestia e Comandè shuttle to Palermo Centrale, every 30 minutes, 50 minutes, sold online, at the arrivals desk or on board (tel. +39 091 586351); the airport page publishes no fare, so check it where you buy.

Checked 12 August 2026: times, fares and durations from the Autolinee Gallo timetable engine, queried for 20 August, 23 August and 18 November 2026; Prestia e Comandè from aeroportodipalermo.it; Terminal Bus distance from OSRM/OpenStreetMap.

Where the bus actually leaves you

The stop is called MENFI VIALE MICHELANGELO INGRESSO — Viale Michelangelo, the entrance to the town — at 37.605224, 12.967180, and the word "entrance" is doing real work. This is not a bus station: no building, no ticket office, no waiting room — a roadside stop on the edge of town. No official source lists a taxi or private-hire rank there, so do not count on finding a car when you step down.

From the stop to Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, the centre of Menfi, is about 750 metres in a straight line and roughly 1 km by road — 12 to 15 minutes on foot, slightly uphill, and the only leg of this journey you can do on your feet. Everything else in Menfi — beaches, wine estates, country houses — is kilometres away, and the commonest mistake here is treating Viale Michelangelo as the destination. For a hotel in the centre it nearly is. For anywhere else it is the start of a second journey.

Stop name and coordinates from Autolinee Gallo stop data; walking distance from OSRM/OpenStreetMap. Checked 12 August 2026.

The train question: Menfi has not had a station since 1986

People ask this constantly, so: search Menfi in the Trenitalia sales system and no location comes back. Same for Sciacca. What does come back is Castelvetrano, Agrigento Centrale and Porto Empedocle Centrale.

Menfi did have a station, on the narrow-gauge Castelvetrano–Porto Empedocle line, opened 21 February 1914 with the Selinunte–Sciacca section and closed in 1986 with the whole Castelvetrano–Ribera stretch. The old goods warehouse is now a wine bar and the trackbed a cycle path, which tells you how permanent that closure is. Its ghost survives locally: the town bus line to the coast still has a stop named "Ex Stazione FS".

The nearest working station is Castelvetrano, about 21 km and 27 minutes by road from the Menfi stop, and reaching it by rail is no shortcut. On 20 August 2026 there were four solutions a day from Palermo Centrale — 10:12, 14:12, 17:12 and 20:12 — and every one required a change, taking 2 hours 34 to 2 hours 57. More than double the direct coach, and you would still be 21 km short with a car to arrange.

Station searches and Palermo–Castelvetrano solutions run on trenitalia.com, 12 August 2026; line history from Wikipedia, a secondary source; the "Ex Stazione FS" stop appears in the Adranone town-line timetable.

Porto Palo and Lido Fiori: the second journey nobody plans

Menfi's beaches are why a large share of visitors come, and they are not in Menfi. In 2026 the town holds the Blue Flag for Porto Palo Cipollazzo and Lido Fiori Bertolino, and it is the only comune in the province of Agrigento on the 2026 list, entry 240 of the 525 beaches awarded. The Comune states it has held the flag twenty-seven times, twenty-four consecutively, a figure referred to 2025.

The catch is distance: Porto Palo is about 8 km from the centre of Menfi, roughly 8.5 km from the bus stop, some 12 minutes by car. It is not a walk. An Adranone cooperative bus covers it year-round from Via Tagliavia, but its two timetables are effectively two services:

  • Summer, 16 June to 15 September, weekdays: nine departures — 08:30, 09:30, 11:30, 12:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:30, 18:30, 19:30.
  • Winter, 16 September to 15 June, weekdays: two departures — 08:30 and 12:30. That is the whole service.

The fare and points of sale are not published on the operator's timetable page, so we will not guess: the number is +39 0925 942770.

Line those against the coach and it gets concrete. Arrive on the 13:20, reach Menfi at 14:40 in July, and you can plausibly make the 15:30 to Porto Palo. Arrive on the 21:05 and nothing is going to the coast — and on 20 September, with the winter timetable in force, even a 14:40 arrival misses the last local departure by two hours.

One seasonal extra: in summer 2026 the Comune ran a free evening shuttle to Lido Fiori and Porto Palo on the busiest nights — 1, 2, 13, 14, 15, 22 and 23 August 2026, under a council resolution of 28 July 2026. The timings sit in tables attached to the notice, so check the Comune's site rather than assuming it repeats. West of the beaches, straddling Menfi and Castelvetrano, is the Riserva Naturale Foce del fiume Belice e dune limitrofe, 241.25 hectares of dunes and river mouth established in 1984; the regional record does not say whether access is regulated.

Checked 12 August 2026: Blue Flag from the Ministero del Turismo 2026 list and the Comune di Menfi; bus times from Adranone; shuttle from the Comune notice; reserve from the Regione Siciliana; distances from OSRM/OpenStreetMap.

The wineries: both need a booking, and neither is in town

Menfi is a working wine town — this is DOC Menfi — and the two names visitors come for are Settesoli's Mandrarossa and Planeta. Both welcome visitors. Neither lets you turn up.

Mandrarossa Winery (Cantine Settesoli) is in Contrada Puccia, 92013 Menfi (AG), and its site is unambiguous: "Reservations are required for all wine tours." Opening is Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30–13:00 and 15:00–18:00; bookings go through +39 0925 77128 or info@mandrarossawinery.it. The programme comes in three families — the Classic Wine Tour, a cellar visit with tasting; Food & Wine Tours, pairing the visit with local food; and the summer 2026 terrace aperitivi with live music. Named routes include "La Sicilia che non ti aspetti", "I volti del Nero d'Avola", "I Varietali", "Top Wines" and "Wine Lunch". Prices are not published, so ask in the same email.

Planeta is here with La Foresteria Wine Resort & Restaurant, Contrada Passo di Gurra, ex S.S. 115 s.p. 79 km 91, alongside Planeta Country House and the Insula Beach Club. Its "Menfi Slow Experience" lasts one hour and costs €50 per person, on reservation through +39 0925 1955460 or reservation@planeta.it. Cellar visits go through Planeta's own booking system; the estate listed for this area is Ulmo, between Menfi and Sambuca di Sicilia.

Both addresses are contrade, countryside localities outside the built-up area, and neither is walkable from the Viale Michelangelo stop — we could not establish either distance precisely enough to publish a figure. And the earliest the coach can put you in Menfi is 14:40, while Mandrarossa's afternoon window closes at 18:00 and it is shut Sundays and Mondays. If the tasting is why you are flying to Sicily, check the cellar's hours against the coach's four departures before booking the flight — and settle who covers the last leg from town to estate: the winery, a local driver, or a car booked from home that goes from arrivals to the gate.

Checked 12 August 2026 on mandrarossa.it, planetaestate.it — DOC Menfi and the Planeta wine tour page.

Going back: the 03:50 coach and the 16:00 cut-off

The return is a different timetable, and it catches people who assume it mirrors the outbound. Direct weekday departures from Menfi to Palermo airport are 03:50, 06:30, 09:30, 13:00 and 16:00, all at €9.10 — five rather than four, and better spread.

Two of them decide most itineraries. The 03:50, reaching the airport at 05:10, is the only realistic public option for an early flight, and genuinely useful: many Sicilian towns have nothing at that hour. Whether you want to stand at an unstaffed roadside stop at 03:50 with luggage and children is another question — and from Porto Palo no local bus runs then to get you there.

At the other end, after 16:00 there are no more direct coaches to the airport: an evening flight out of Palermo cannot be reached by direct bus from Menfi at all. That leaves the split journey via Palermo, with a change and a margin you build yourself, or a car.

Return times and fares from the Autolinee Gallo timetable engine, queried for Thursday 20 August 2026, checked 12 August 2026.

When you do not need a private transfer

We sell private transfers here, and we will not pretend €9.10 is a bad price. Take the coach and keep the difference if most of this describes you:

  • You are one or two people with a case each. Against any car, €9.10 a head over 102 km is not a contest.
  • Your flight lands in time for the 13:20 or the 14:55, with margin for baggage reclaim.
  • You are staying in Menfi town itself. A kilometre uphill from Viale Michelangelo is manageable with normal luggage.
  • You are travelling mid-June to mid-September and the coast is your destination. With nine local departures a day, an early-afternoon arrival can reach Porto Palo the same day.
  • You were spending a night in Palermo anyway. From Terminal Bus, 130 metres from Palermo Centrale, it is €7.80 and no airport logistics at all.

If that is you, keep the €9.10 and stop reading.

When a car with a driver earns its place

The honest case for a private transfer from Palermo Airport to Menfi is not speed — the coach is nearly as quick. It is the hours the timetable leaves empty, and the second journey after the coach stops.

  • You land in the morning. Nothing direct leaves before 13:20; a car turns a five-hour wait into an hour and a half.
  • You land on a Sunday. Two departures, 13:20 and 21:05, and nothing else.
  • You are staying at Porto Palo, Lido Fiori or a country estate. Porto Palo alone is 8 km from town and on a separate timetable, and from 16 September that line runs twice a day.
  • You are three or more with luggage. Multiply the fare, add the walk from Viale Michelangelo, then the leg to wherever you sleep.
  • Children, a pushchair, a car seat. The 23:00 run puts you on a dark roadside stop at 00:20.
  • You have a winery booked. Mandrarossa closes at 18:00, is shut Sunday and Monday, and both estates are out in the contrade.
  • You are here for a wedding. Arriving dressed, on time, as a group, from 102 km away is what public transport handles worst.
  • Your flight is likely to shift. Pickup is scheduled on the real flight time and waiting follows the booking conditions; the 13:20 coach leaves at 13:20 whatever your aircraft does.

What you get is a driver in arrivals with your name, one vehicle from terminal to address, and a fixed price per vehicle, confirmed before you pay. What you do not get is a cheaper trip than €9.10, and we will not suggest otherwise.

What to check on the day you actually travel

Everything above was verified on 12 August 2026. Four things to re-check:

  • Your date, not just the season. Weekday and Sunday are different services — four direct runs against two.
  • Your real arrival time against 13:20 and 14:55, passport queue and baggage belt included.
  • The Porto Palo timetable. On 16 September the local line drops from nine departures a day to two, and that one change ruins more Menfi itineraries than anything else here.
  • Your winery booking. Both estates require reservations, and neither is walkable from the stop.

When the coach timetable does not fit your flight

A private transfer from Palermo Airport to Menfi puts a driver in arrivals with your name and takes one vehicle to your address — the town, Porto Palo, Lido Fiori or a winery out in the contrade — at hours when the coaches are not running. Pickup is scheduled on your real flight time, waiting follows the booking conditions, and the price is fixed per vehicle and confirmed before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get from Palermo airport to Menfi?

+
Autolinee Gallo runs a direct coach from Palermo Falcone-Borsellino to Menfi with no intermediate stops, on the line marked PALERMO-APT-MENFI-SCIACCA-RIBERA. The ticket is 9.10 EUR one way for an adult and the journey takes 1 hour 20 minutes. The bus stops at the airport are on the ground floor of the arrivals hall, on your right as you come out. There is no train: Menfi has had no railway station since 1986. Verified in the Autolinee Gallo timetable engine and on aeroportodipalermo.it on 12 August 2026.

How much is the bus from Palermo airport to Menfi?

+
9.10 EUR one way for an adult, the same fare on every direct run. From Palermo city instead of the airport the fare is 7.80 EUR from Palermo Terminal Bus in Via Fazello, and the short airport-to-Terminal-Bus leg on its own is 1.30 EUR. The airport states that Autolinee Gallo tickets for Sciacca, Menfi and Ribera are sold on board; the direct runs are also on sale through the operator's online booking. Verified on autolineegallo.it on 12 August 2026.

What time do the buses from Palermo airport to Menfi leave?

+
On weekdays there are four direct departures: 13:20 arriving 14:40, 14:55 arriving 16:15, 21:05 arriving 22:25 and 23:00 arriving 00:20. On Sundays only two run, 13:20 and 21:05. Nothing direct leaves before 13:20, so a morning landing means either a long wait or a change at Palermo Terminal Bus. The same four runs at the same fare appear in November as in August, so this is not a summer-only service. Verified in the Autolinee Gallo timetable engine for 20 August, 23 August and 18 November 2026, checked 12 August 2026.

Is there a train from Palermo to Menfi?

+
No. Menfi does not appear in the Trenitalia sales system at all, and neither does Sciacca: the town's station closed in 1986 with the narrow-gauge Castelvetrano-Porto Empedocle line, and the trackbed is now a cycle path. The nearest working station is Castelvetrano, about 21 km and 27 minutes by road from Menfi. Reaching it from Palermo Centrale took 2 hours 34 to 2 hours 57 on all four daily solutions checked, every one with a change, and you would still need a car for the last 21 km. Verified on trenitalia.com on 12 August 2026.

How do I get from Menfi to Porto Palo beach?

+
Porto Palo is about 8 km from the centre of Menfi, roughly 8.5 km from the bus stop, some 12 minutes by car, and it is not walkable. A bus run by the Adranone cooperative connects them year-round from Via Tagliavia, with nine weekday departures between 16 June and 15 September (08:30, 09:30, 11:30, 12:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:30, 18:30, 19:30) and only two, 08:30 and 12:30, from 16 September to 15 June. The fare is not published, so call +39 0925 942770. Verified on the Adranone timetable page on 12 August 2026.

Can I visit the Menfi wineries without a car?

+
Not easily. Mandrarossa Winery (Cantine Settesoli) is in Contrada Puccia and states that reservations are required for all wine tours, opening Tuesday to Saturday 9:30-13:00 and 15:00-18:00, on +39 0925 77128 or info@mandrarossawinery.it. Planeta's La Foresteria is in Contrada Passo di Gurra, with a one-hour Menfi Slow Experience at 50 EUR per person on reservation, +39 0925 1955460. Both are countryside contrade outside the built-up area and neither is walkable from the coach stop, so the last leg has to be arranged in advance. Verified on mandrarossa.it and planetaestate.it on 12 August 2026.
