Palermo Airport (PMO) to Mondello: 2026 Guide

There is a direct bus from Palermo airport to Mondello: EUR 6, 40 minutes, seasonal — but the first departure from the airport is at 08:00 and the last one back leaves Mondello at 19:00. Here is every route to the beach with its official source, plus the summer pedestrian rules that decide where a vehicle can actually drop you.

Quick answer — Palermo Airport (PMO) to Mondello

  • There is a direct bus: the Prestia e Comandè shuttle links the airport with Mondello in 40 minutes for €6 single, €10 return
  • It is seasonal: 15 June to 31 October 2026, every day including public holidays, booking recommended by the operator
  • The number that decides your day: the first departure from the airport is at 08:00 — an early landing has nothing direct to wait for
  • And the second: the last shuttle from Mondello to the airport leaves at 19:00
  • Summer in Mondello: a pedestrian area and an evening ZTL run from 8 May to 30 September 2026, deciding where any vehicle can stop

How long the ride actually takes

The only journey time an operator stands behind is 40 minutes: that is what Prestia e Comandè prints for its direct Mondello line, airport terminal to the Galatea car park, stops along the way included. No official source publishes a driving time for the same route, so we print none — treat 40 minutes as the one figure somebody is accountable for.

Road distance is another matter: sources disagree by kilometres and no public body publishes one for this route, so we print none. The shape of the ground tells you more. Mondello is not a suburb of Palermo with a beach attached: it sits beyond the Parco della Favorita, a green area of roughly 4 square kilometres, on a semicircular bay about 1,500 metres long (Wikipedia, a secondary source, checked 12 August 2026).

On a map it looks ten minutes from the city. In practice it is a separate place, with its own road access, its own summer traffic rules and its own bus network.

The direct shuttle to Mondello: the good news, in full

Most airport-to-beach questions in Sicily end with “there is no direct bus”. Not this one: Prestia e Comandè runs a shuttle branded Mondello – Aeroporto Falcone e Borsellino, and in summer it is the honest first answer.

  • Season: 15 June to 31 October 2026, every day, public holidays included.
  • Journey time: 40 minutes, printed on the official timetable as the ride duration.
  • Fares: €6.00 single and €10.00 return for adults over 13; €4.00 and €8.00 for ages 3 to 12; under 3 free.
  • On board: cash or card, with no surcharge — the same €6 and €10 you pay online.
  • Passes: 12 rides in a week for €30.60, 60 rides in a month for €97.60 — built for commuters, not holidays.
  • Booking: the operator recommends reserving. With eight departures a day in August, take that literally.

That no-surcharge detail does not apply to the same company’s city line, where boarding without a ticket costs more. And one caveat we will not bury: the service is seasonal, ends on 31 October 2026 and has no published renewal — in November, treat it as not running until the operator says otherwise.

Season, duration, fares and passes from the official Mondello line timetable (PDF) and the operator’s service page, checked 12 August 2026.

The timetable: eight departures, and two of them decide everything

Airport to Mondello (Parcheggio Galatea): 08:00, 09:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, 19:00, 21:30.

Mondello (Parcheggio Galatea) to the airport: 04:00, 05:45, 07:45, 09:45, 11:45, 13:45, 15:45, 17:45, 19:00.

Eight runs one way, nine the other, with irregular gaps — an hour in the morning, two hours across the middle of the day. No frequency is published for this line: the “every thirty minutes” rhythm belongs to the airport–city line, not to this one.

Two numbers do most of the damage. 08:00 is the first departure from the airport, so a 06:30 landing has nothing direct to wait for. 19:00 is the last departure from Mondello towards the airport, so for a 22:00 flight the direct line does not exist that day. The mirror image is genuinely useful, though: 04:00 and 05:45 departures from Mondello cover an early check-in when very little else does.

Where the shuttle stops, and which stop you want

At the airport the bus stops for every destination are on the ground floor: leave the terminal at the Arrivals Hall and they are on your right. Towards Mondello the line then calls, in order, at Nicoletti in Piazza Bolivar / via Nicoletti by the ENI station, Venere Castelforte and Venere Margherita di Savoia in viale Venere, Delle Palme in via Margherita di Savoia, P.pe di Scalea Teti in via Principe di Scalea, and finally Mondello Parcheggio Galatea.

Here is the mistake most people make on their first trip: staying on to the end of the line. The operator itself says that passengers heading for Mondello Paese should get off at P.pe di Scalea Teti, one stop before the Galatea terminus, because it is the closest stop to the centre of the village and to the beach. Ride to the terminus instead and you walk back along the bay with your luggage.

No official source publishes the walking distance from either stop to any address, so open a map with your real address before deciding which stop is yours.

If your bed is at the far end of the bay, AMAT’s summer shuttles cover the last leg at 50 cents for non-residents, free for Palermo residents, under-12s, over-65s and disabled passengers, with tickets in the MyAMAT and Palermobilità apps. Circular line 84 is the one that meets arrivals at Galatea, running Parcheggio Galatea – Valdesi – Parcheggio Mongibello every day from 8 May to 30 September 2026; lines 86, 87 and 88 add Addaura, Partanna and Sferracavallo from 16 May.

The two-leg route: airport bus to the city, then the 806

Outside the shuttle’s hours, and outside its season, the public answer becomes two buses: cheap, reliable enough, and one change with your cases.

Leg one. The Prestia e Comandè airport–city line runs every 30 minutes, every day including holidays, with a stated end-to-end time of 50 minutes: from the airport between 05:05 and 01:05, from Palermo towards the airport between 03:30 and 21:30. The stop you want comes before the end — the bus reaches Politeama (Piazza Ruggero Settimo) in about 35 minutes, then continues to via Roma / Vucciria and the Terminal Fazello by Stazione Centrale: the 05:05 from the airport is at Politeama at 05:40 and at Fazello at 05:50. The last three departures, 00:05, 00:35 and 01:05, carry a stated flexibility of 10 to 15 minutes.

Fares are €6.00 single and €10.00 return for adults, €4.00 and €8.00 for ages 3 to 12 — but here, unlike the Mondello line, buying on board costs more: €6.50 and €11.00. The airport ticket office opens 07:30 to 23:00 daily, in front of departures; after 23:00, on board is the only channel left.

Leg two: AMAT bus 806. It starts from piazza Don Sturzo and runs up viale della Libertà, through piazza Vittorio Veneto and via Margherita di Savoia, to Mondello via Teti, returning by viale Principe di Scalea and piazza Politeama. The change is walkable, which is the point: the Don Sturzo terminus is a few steps from the Politeama stop where the airport bus leaves you. AMAT confirmed the line is running normally this year, with a notice of 5 June 2026 restoring the regular itinerary of lines 101 and 806 on viale della Libertà.

Now the honest gap. AMAT publishes no timetable for the 806 — no first run, no last run, no frequency we are willing to quote, since the figures circulating online come from a 2025 press release never confirmed for this season. Check at the stop, or in the apps, on the day.

AMAT tickets: ordinary 90-minute €1.40, or €1.80 on board; day ticket €3.50; MultiDay €6.00 for two days, €16.50 for seven. Buy at tobacconists and newsstands or in the PALERMOBILITA and MyAmat apps, and validate as soon as you board.

Airport line from the Palermo–Airport timetable (PDF), the intermediate times table (PDF) and the points of sale page. Line 806 from AMAT and its notice of 5 June 2026; fares from AMAT and the Comune di Palermo. Checked 12 August 2026.

Train plus bus: real, but rarely right for Mondello

Palermo airport has a railway station at basement level inside the terminal, in service every day. Trenitalia runs 2 trains an hour in each direction to and from Palermo Centrale, with bands where the frequency drops. Adults pay €6.80, children aged 4 to 12 €3.50. The first train leaves Palermo Centrale at 04:00 and the airport at 05:18; the last at 22:12 and 00:20 respectively.

The catch is stated by the operator: the train does not serve Mondello. It puts you at Palermo Centrale, and the 806 starts at piazza Don Sturzo near Politeama, not at the station. Where the train does earn its place is a late landing: the 00:20 from the airport outlasts the direct shuttle by hours. Judge it as “how do I get into Palermo tonight”, not “how do I get to Mondello”.

Taxi: the fixed fares, and why none of them is yours

The airport publishes fixed taxi fares to and from three areas of Palermo: €39 for viale Michelangelo and viale Lazio, €44 for corso Calatafimi and corso Vittorio Emanuele, €50 for Stazione Centrale and Brancaccio. None of them covers Mondello, for which no fixed fare is published at all.

So a Mondello taxi runs on the meter, and no official source says what it comes to. Ask the driver to state the fare before the cases go in the boot; if you want a number agreed before you travel, that is what a booked transfer is for.

In Arrivals there are also 2 bays for a taxi sharing service, run by Coop. Trinacria and Coop. Autoradio Taxi, at €10 per passenger — but the fare applies only once at least 4 passengers have been gathered. Good value at a busy midday; a long wait at 07:00 for a destination few of your fellow passengers share.

Mondello in summer: the pedestrian area, the ZTL, and where a vehicle can stop

This is the part that catches people who planned everything else properly. With Ordinance no. 15 of 6 May 2026 the Comune di Palermo introduced in Mondello, experimentally from 8 May to 30 September 2026, a wide pedestrian area and a limited traffic zone.

  • The pedestrian area covers long stretches of viale Regina Elena for about one kilometre, with access regulated and reserved to authorised categories only.
  • The evening ZTL runs 20:00 to 24:00, extended to 01:00 on days before public holidays, over a wider perimeter including piazza Mondello and nearby streets.
  • Bus routes were redrawn: services are diverted onto viale Principe di Scalea, with road space reorganised for pedestrians, cyclists and short stops.
  • Parking: the Mongibello car park charges 08:00 to 24:00 and is free outside those hours. From 1 June to 30 September 2026 the seaside paid zones are active in Mondello (Zone D) and Sferracavallo (Zone E), charged 08:00 to 20:00 every day. The Galatea car park costs €3 a day.

The practical translation: in high season no vehicle can be assumed to reach the door of a seafront address, and the last stretch may be on foot from wherever stopping is legal. Send your exact address to whoever is driving you before the day, so the drop-off is chosen by someone who knows this season’s layout. One honest limit: the annex with the street-by-street perimeter was not readable online when we checked, so we quote the Comune’s summary and nothing more.

Pedestrian area, ZTL and car park from the Città di Palermo announcement; parking zones and the Galatea tariff from AMAT. Checked 12 August 2026.

When you do not need a private transfer

We sell private transfers, and we would rather tell you the truth than sell you one you do not need. On this route the public option is unusually good. Take the shuttle if:

  • You are one or two people with normal luggage, landing between 08:00 and 21:30, between 15 June and 31 October. One vehicle, no change, 40 minutes, €6 a head. Nothing we sell beats that.
  • You are staying near Mondello Paese or the Galatea end of the bay. The P.pe di Scalea Teti stop puts you inside the village, and from 8 May to 30 September 2026 the circular 84 covers what is left — in October the shuttle is still running, the 84 is not.
  • You are flying out on an early daytime flight. The 04:00 and 05:45 departures cover hours when many destinations have nothing at all.
  • You are spending part of the trip in the city too. A MultiDay AMAT ticket at €6.00 for two days or €16.50 for seven changes the maths on the whole holiday.

If that is you, close this page, keep €6 in your pocket, and look for the bus stops on your right as you leave Arrivals.

When a car with a driver earns its place

The case for booking ahead here is narrow. It is about the clock, the season and the load, never the distance.

  • You land before 08:00 or after 21:30. No direct shuttle runs then, and the fallback is a city bus plus a line with no published timetable. At 06:00 with a sleeping child that is a hope, not a plan.
  • You fly out after 19:00. The last direct run from Mondello leaves at 19:00, so an evening departure has no direct option.
  • You travel outside 15 June to 31 October, when the shuttle is out of season.
  • You are three or more with cases. Multiply €6 by five, add the change and the walk at both ends, and the comparison stops being about money.
  • Children, a pushchair, or someone who cannot manage the last stretch on foot. With the pedestrian area in force, the final approach matters more here than in most places.
  • Your flight is likely to be late. Pickup is scheduled on the real arrival time of the flight, not the time printed on your ticket. A shuttle at 19:00 does not wait for a delayed inbound.
  • You are not staying in Mondello at all and the beach is one stop on a longer itinerary across Sicily.

What a booking gives you is concrete: a driver waiting in arrivals with your name, one vehicle taking you as close to your address as the pedestrian area and the ZTL allow that day, and a fixed price confirmed before you pay. Waiting time is whatever the booking conditions provide for, night pickups may carry a supplement, and those terms are on screen before you confirm. What it does not give you is a better deal than €6 on a shuttle in July. If your day matches that list, the private transfer from Palermo Airport to Mondello is the version of this trip that does not depend on a timetable.

What to check on the day you travel

Everything here was verified on 12 August 2026, and Sicilian summer services move with the season. Before you leave, check that the direct shuttle is still running — the published season ends 31 October 2026 — then put your realistic arrival time against 08:00 and 21:30, your departure against the 19:00 last run from Mondello, and your address against the pedestrian area and ZTL, experimental until 30 September 2026. The 806 is the leg to plan with the widest margin: no timetable is published for it.

Arriving when the shuttle is not running

A private transfer from Palermo Airport to Mondello puts a driver in arrivals with your name, schedules the pickup on the real arrival time of your flight, and takes one vehicle as close to your address as the summer pedestrian area and ZTL allow — including before 08:00 and after 21:30, and outside the season when the direct shuttle does not exist. Fixed price per vehicle, confirmed at booking.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get from Palermo airport to Mondello?

+
In summer there is a direct bus. Prestia e Comande runs a shuttle between Palermo Falcone Borsellino airport and Mondello from 15 June to 31 October 2026, every day including public holidays, with a stated ride duration of 40 minutes. Outside its hours or its season the alternative is two legs: the Prestia e Comande airport bus to Politeama, then AMAT city bus 806 from piazza Don Sturzo to Mondello. The bus stops are on the ground floor as you leave the Arrivals Hall, on your right. Verified on the operator timetable and on aeroportodipalermo.it on 12 August 2026.

How much is the bus from Palermo airport to Mondello?

+
The direct Mondello shuttle costs EUR 6.00 single and EUR 10.00 return for adults over 13, EUR 4.00 and EUR 8.00 for children aged 3 to 12, and is free for under 3s. Buying on board in cash or by card costs the same as buying online, with no surcharge. Going via the city instead, the airport bus is EUR 6.00 single and EUR 10.00 return, rising to EUR 6.50 and EUR 11.00 if bought on board, plus an AMAT ticket at EUR 1.40 for 90 minutes or EUR 1.80 on board. Verified on the Prestia e Comande timetables and on amat.pa.it on 12 August 2026.

What time is the first and last shuttle between Palermo airport and Mondello?

+
From the airport to Mondello the departures are 08:00, 09:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, 19:00 and 21:30. From Mondello to the airport they are 04:00, 05:45, 07:45, 09:45, 11:45, 13:45, 15:45, 17:45 and 19:00. There is nothing direct before 08:00 from the airport and nothing after 19:00 towards the airport, and the gaps between runs are irregular, up to two hours in the middle of the day. Verified on the official Prestia e Comande Mondello line timetable on 12 August 2026.

Is the direct Mondello shuttle running all year?

+
No. The service is seasonal and the published season runs from 15 June to 31 October 2026, every day including public holidays, with booking recommended by the operator. No continuation after 31 October 2026 has been published, so outside those dates do not plan around it: check the operator site before travelling and, if the shuttle is not running, use the airport bus to Palermo plus AMAT bus 806, or a pre-booked car. Verified on the operator timetable and service page on 12 August 2026.

How much is a taxi from Palermo airport to Mondello?

+
There is no published answer. Palermo airport lists fixed taxi fares for three city destinations only: EUR 39 for viale Michelangelo and viale Lazio, EUR 44 for corso Calatafimi and corso Vittorio Emanuele, EUR 50 for Stazione Centrale and Brancaccio. Mondello is not among them, so the ride runs on the meter and no official source states the total. Ask the driver to state the fare before loading your luggage. The airport also has 2 taxi sharing bays in Arrivals at EUR 10 per passenger, but that fare applies only once at least 4 passengers are gathered. Verified on aeroportodipalermo.it on 12 August 2026.

Can a car drop me at my hotel on the Mondello seafront in summer?

+
Not always. From 8 May to 30 September 2026 the Comune di Palermo has an experimental pedestrian area covering about one kilometre of viale Regina Elena, with access limited to authorised categories, plus an evening limited traffic zone from 20:00 to 24:00, extended to 01:00 on days before public holidays, over a wider perimeter including piazza Mondello. Bus routes are diverted onto viale Principe di Scalea. Send your exact address to whoever is driving you in advance and expect the final stretch on foot from the nearest legal stopping point.
