Where Regaleali actually is, and why that changes the trip
Regaleali is not a town with a bus stop bearing its name. It is farmed hill country in the interior, in the countryside of Vallelunga Pratameno: around two hours of driving from the airport, and about 45 km from Caltanissetta — the agricultural middle of the island, where coastal tourism stops and the wheat and the vineyards start.
Absorb one consequence first: every public option ends somewhere that is not your destination — a station in the valley, a stop in a village, a coach terminal in Caltanissetta. The timetables below are real and cheap, and none puts you at the estate gate.
The distances, from routing on OpenStreetMap data (OSRM, checked 12 August 2026): the airport is about 126 km from Vallelunga Pratameno, around two hours of driving; from Caltanissetta the town is about 45 km, a little under an hour. Indicative driving times without traffic.
And a countryside address is not a street number your phone will always resolve: ask your hosts for the exact arrival point, ideally as coordinates, and hand those to whoever is driving.
The airport end: nothing leaves for the Nissenian interior
Start with the fact that decides everything after it. There is no bus from Palermo airport to Caltanissetta or the Nissenian interior. The coach destinations published by the airport operator are Cinisi and its surroundings, Terrasini, Palermo Stazione Centrale, Trapani, Agrigento, Porto Empedocle, Sciacca, Menfi, Ribera and San Vito lo Capo, plus the SAIS line towards Catania, Messina and Enna. Vallelunga, Valledolmo and Caltanissetta are not on it.
So the first move of every public itinerary is identical: get to Palermo, then start again — two vehicles minimum, three in practice. The bays are outside the terminal at ground level, coming out of the Arrivals Hall, on your right; the shuttle ticket office there opens daily 07:30–23:00.
The taxi rank is no help either. The fixed fares the airport publishes are all city fares — €39 to viale Michelangelo or viale Lazio, €44 to corso Calatafimi or corso Vittorio Emanuele, €50 to Stazione Centrale or Brancaccio, plus taxi sharing at €10 per passenger with a minimum of four. Nothing is published for a two-hour run inland: that is a price to agree before you get in.

Stage one: from the terminal into Palermo
The Prestia e Comandè shuttle is the default of the two options here. It reaches Palermo Stazione Centrale in 50 minutes, runs every 30 minutes, and operates every day of the year, public holidays included. Bought in advance a single is €6.00 and a return €10.00; children from 2 to 12 pay €4.00 and €8.00, under-2s free. On board — cash or card — the single becomes €6.50 and the return €11.00. Tickets are also sold online, in the app, and at the via Fazello office, open daily 6:00–20:00.
The first departure from the airport is at 05:05. The last runs are at 00:05, 00:35 and 01:00, which the company flags as subject to the flight schedule — a polite way of saying do not build a connection on them. In the other direction the first shuttle from Palermo to the airport leaves at 03:30 and the last at 21:30. Remember that 21:30 when you plan the flight home; it is earlier than most people expect.
The terminus is in via T. Fazello, beside Palermo Centrale; on the way in it calls at via Roma 289, Politeama, via Libertà at 45, 95, 171 and 203, viale Croce Rossa 125, via De Gasperi and via Belgio 25.
The train is the alternative: Palermo Aeroporto to Palermo Centrale costs €6.80 and takes 47 minutes to 1 h 09 min depending on the run. First train from the airport at 05:18, last at 00:20 arriving 01:07; towards the airport, first from Centrale at 04:00.
The deciding detail: the SAIS coach terminal is in via Tommaso Fazello, the same address as the shuttle terminus, so if your plan is the coach to Caltanissetta you change vehicles without moving your suitcase more than a few metres. If your plan is the train, buy through from the airport rather than in two pieces: the through fare to Vallelunga is €14.40.

Stage two by rail: Vallelunga has a station, with two asterisks
Vallelunga does have a station on the Palermo–Catania line, served by Regionale and Regionale Veloce trains. Then come the asterisks.
Asterisk one: the 2026 engineering works. RFI suspended circulation on the Palermo–Catania line between Caltanissetta Xirbi and Lercara Diramazione from 14 June to 13 September 2026, for maintenance in the Marianopoli tunnel, track renewal between Villalba and Valledolmo, and new signalling. Vallelunga station is inside that section, so while the works last every Palermo–Vallelunga journey is a replacement bus wearing a train ticket. Queried for 14 August 2026, the planner returned six solutions: the fastest 2 h 03 min at €9.70 via Roccapalumba-Alia, the worst 5 h 34 min at €11.90 via Caltanissetta Xirbi. Same origin, same destination, three and a half hours apart.
Asterisk two: even normal service is thin. Queried for 1 October 2026, after the works are due to end, Palermo Centrale to Vallelunga returns seven solutions a day, every one with a change at Roccapalumba-Alia or Caltanissetta Xirbi — no direct train in that direction. The fastest is 1 h 25 min at €9.70.
Through from the airport: with ordinary service the best is 2 h 36 min for €14.40, with only five usable combinations in the whole day; during the replacement-bus period the best is 2 h 58 min at the same €14.40. A cheap way to cross a hundred and twenty-six kilometres of Sicily — and a service where one missed connection costs three hours.
A direct train does exist, but only outbound: the Regionale Veloce 5501 leaves Vallelunga at 06:49 and reaches Palermo Centrale at 07:59, €9.70. The countryside is easier to leave than to reach, and only at dawn.
Valledolmo is sometimes suggested instead: €8.80 from Palermo Centrale, best time 1 h 15 min. Faster on paper, worse on the ground — that station is about 7.6 km in a straight line from the town, which sits at around 757 m.

Stage two by road: one bus a day, and none on Sunday
Palermo to Caltanissetta is easy. SAIS Trasporti runs line 9002/9003 direct, €10.00, 1 h 40 min: 13 departures between 06:15 and 19:30 on weekdays, 9 from 07:30 to 19:30 on Saturdays, 6 from 08:30 to 19:00 on Sundays and public holidays. The terminal is in via Tommaso Fazello, where the airport shuttle drops you.
Caltanissetta to Vallelunga Pratameno is the bottleneck. SAIS does not connect Palermo to Vallelunga at all: the destinations reachable from Palermo include Caltanissetta and Resuttano, but neither Vallelunga Pratameno nor Valledolmo. The only bus into the village is SAIS line 9022 from Caltanissetta, once a day: departure 14:15, arrival 15:55, ticket €5.20. In the opposite direction there is likewise a single run, Vallelunga 06:20 to Caltanissetta 08:00, same fare. The 9022 continues to Valledolmo, arriving 16:15 for €5.90.
Two things about that bus decide whether your plan survives contact with reality.
It does not run on Sundays or public holidays. We queried Sunday 23 August 2026 and Ferragosto, Saturday 15 August 2026: no service on either date. Land on a Sunday and this route does not exist that day, at any price.
And you cannot buy the ticket online. SAIS regional TPL fares, including both these legs, are marked as not purchasable in the online system, and the company directs you to its counters. Palermo opens Monday to Friday 05:45–19:30, Saturday 06:30–19:30, Sunday 08:00–11:00 and 13:00–19:00; in Caltanissetta the terminal is at Piazzale Ex GIL, telephone 0934 1905167.
The trap on the way back is worse: there is no SAIS ticket office at Vallelunga Pratameno, Valledolmo, Villalba or Mussomeli — the nearest counters are Caltanissetta and Gela. Buy the return while you are still somewhere with a counter, and ask the staff how boarding works at the Vallelunga stop.
Three things we could not verify, and will not invent: where exactly the 9022 stops inside Vallelunga Pratameno, since no stop address is published; which villages it calls at in between; and whether the winter timetable matches the August one we checked. Ask at the Caltanissetta counter before you commit.

The last kilometres, which no timetable covers
Suppose everything above has worked and you are standing at Vallelunga station with your bags. You are still not in the village, let alone the countryside beyond it.
The station is not in the built-up area: it sits on the SP22, about 2.1 km by road from the centre of Vallelunga Pratameno — 1.75 km as the crow flies — on the valley floor at roughly 444 m of altitude, against the town's 484 m. A rail arrival therefore ends with an uphill walk along a provincial road, or with a lift. We could not confirm whether that road has a pavement, and found no published taxi or private-hire service based at Vallelunga Pratameno, so we will not promise one will be waiting.
And the village is still not the estate. Whatever brings you to Vallelunga — train, the 14:15 bus, a friend's car — somebody has to cover the final stretch. That gap, not the price of a train ticket, is the reason this page exists. Coming by public transport, arrange the pickup before you board, with a time and a meeting point.
What a public-transport day actually looks like
Land in the morning on a weekday, take the shuttle to via Fazello, buy the coach ticket at the SAIS counter there, ride to Caltanissetta, wait for the 14:15, and you are in Vallelunga at 15:55, about €21.20 per adult lighter and with the last stretch still to arrange. That works only if your flight lands early enough to clear two connections before 14:15 — with baggage reclaim, a morning arrival, not a lunchtime one.
This and the €14.40 train are both workable, and both fragile in the same way: Sunday removes the 9022, a delayed flight removes the 14:15, a second suitcase removes the walk from the station. Outside those conditions the plan does not degrade gracefully — it stops.
When you do not need a private transfer
We sell private transfers, and would rather lose the booking than sell you one you do not need. Skip it if any of these describes you.
- Your hosts are collecting you. If the estate or your accommodation sends someone to Vallelunga station, take the train: €14.40, one ticket, and the awkward last stretch is already solved.
- You are one or two with light bags, landing in the morning on a weekday, in no hurry. About €21.20 a head by coach, or €14.40 by train, against any private vehicle is not a close contest on money. The day itself is the price you pay.
- You are hiring a car anyway. For a trip built around the interior a hire car is often the right answer, and two hours of driving is not a punishing first leg. Just settle in advance who is doing it after the flight.
- You are sleeping in Palermo first. Today's only decision is €6.00 on the shuttle or €6.80 on the train.
When a car with a driver earns its place
The honest case for booking a private transfer from Palermo Airport to Regaleali is narrow, and it is about the calendar and the load rather than comfort.
- You land on a Sunday or a public holiday. The single daily bus does not run, and no fare comparison changes that.
- You land after the early afternoon. The 14:15 from Caltanissetta has gone and the rail combinations are down to a handful.
- Three or more of you with cases. Multiply €21.20 by four, add two changes with luggage and an unresolved last mile, and the comparison stops being about money.
- Nobody in your group wants to drive. Two hours on unfamiliar inland roads at the end of a flight is a long stretch for whoever draws the short straw.
- Children, a pushchair, a car seat, or anyone who cannot manage 2.1 km uphill from a valley station.
- You are flying home early or late. The last shuttle from Palermo to the airport is at 21:30 and the first at 03:30, and the first train towards the airport leaves Palermo Centrale at 04:00; if your flight falls outside those hours, check on your date what is still running before you count on it.
What you get: a driver waiting in arrivals with your name, a pickup scheduled on the real arrival time of your flight rather than the timetabled one, waiting time as set out in the booking conditions, a fixed price per vehicle confirmed before you pay, and coordinates rather than a village name as the destination. What you do not get is a better deal than €14.40 on a train, and we will not pretend otherwise.
What to check on the day you actually travel
Everything here was verified on 12 August 2026, and inland Sicilian transport moves more than the coastal kind. Before you leave, check five things.
- Whether the RFI works are over. They were due to end on 13 September 2026; before that, every Palermo–Vallelunga rail journey is a replacement bus.
- The SAIS 9022 on your exact date, at a ticket office rather than online, and the winter timetable if you travel out of season. We verified August dates only.
- Your realistic landing time against 14:15, with queues and baggage reclaim.
- Your return tickets, bought before you reach a village with no counter and no online sales.
- The exact arrival point at the estate, ideally as coordinates, and who is meeting you if you come by train.
Do those five and the interior is straightforward. Skip them and Sicily teaches the lesson at 15:55, at a stop where we found no taxi or private-hire service published.

A private transfer from Palermo Airport to Regaleali covers the whole two hours in one car: a driver in arrivals with your name, a pickup planned around your real flight time, and a destination given as coordinates rather than a village still a drive away.
