Quick answer — Palermo Falcone e Borsellino (PMO) to Verdura Resort, Sciacca

  • By car: we could not source an official distance or drive time for this route, so run your own routing the week you travel
  • There is a direct coach, but it stops in Sciacca: Autolinee Gallo, published by the airport as 1 h 50, ending at the Via Lioni terminal
  • Published connections: Monday to Saturday 07:50 → 10:35, 11:30 → 14:20 and 14:55 → 16:40; Sundays and holidays, one run, 12:40 → 15:10
  • The gap: east of Via Lioni the SS115 runs on for 15.8 km to the mouth of the Fiume Verdura, and the furthest urban bus stop that way still leaves 11.8 km of road with no pavement
  • Tickets: the airport says the Sciacca coach is sold on board only, and Gallo publishes no fare for it

Where this journey actually ends

Most airport guides stop at the town. This one cannot: the address you are heading for is not in Sciacca but on the coast east of it, on the stretch of SS115 the signs call the Sud Occidentale Sicula. We could not source an official distance or driving time for the airport leg, so this page does not print one: run your own routing the week you travel, and treat whatever it gives you as an empty-road figure rather than a promise.

The part that decides your day is the end of it. From the Via Lioni bus terminal in Sciacca to the mouth of the Fiume Verdura (37.4641 N, 13.2027 E) OSRM routing over OpenStreetMap data, checked 12 August 2026, gives 15.8 km and about 27 minutes by car, past the Viadotto Galenzo I and the Galleria San Giorgio. We measure to the river mouth because it is the closest waypoint on that coast we can cite from public data: read it as the order of magnitude of the final leg, not as a distance to a resort gate. In a car those 27 minutes are nothing; without one they are the whole problem.

The coach that exists: Autolinee Gallo to Sciacca

Start with the good news. There is a direct coach from the airport to Sciacca, Autolinee Gallo runs it, and the airport publishes the journey as 1 hour 50 minutes to the terminal in town. On a corridor where visitors expect three changes, that is a good service.

Finding it is the first test. The airport writes that the bus stops for all destinations are outside the terminal, ground floor, Arrivals level, on the right, marked by destination boards. Gallo is more specific: its coach leaves from the last bay at the airport exit, the far end of the stands, not a desk inside the terminal. Where it puts you down is unambiguous: every arrival from Palermo stops at the Terminal in Via Lioni, Sciacca, the single long-distance terminus in town — the address Autolinee Lumia signposts as "Via Lioni / EUROSPIN".

Two other Gallo services show the shape of the corridor: from the airport, Menfi is published at 1 h 20 and Ribera at 2 h 20, both with tickets on board only. And since 14 July 2025, according to regional press rather than an operator notice, Gallo added two daily direct Sciacca–airport links routed on the A29 motorway, calling at Ribera and Menfi, in about 1 h 50.

Stop and times from the Palermo airport bus page and the official Gallo connections PDF; Lumia stop from Autolinee Lumia; the 2025 direct runs from Risoluto.it, secondary. Checked 12 August 2026.

The published departures, and everything the timetable leaves out

Gallo publishes a connections sheet for this exact relation. On weekdays, Monday to Saturday, it lists three runs from the airport to Via Lioni: 07:50 → 10:35 (about 2 h 45), 11:30 → 14:20 (about 2 h 50) and 14:55 → 16:40 (1 h 45). On Sundays and public holidays, one: 12:40 → 15:10.

The spread is the story: the afternoon departure does the airport-to-Sciacca leg in 1 h 45, the two morning ones take nearly three hours over the same relation. If you can choose your flight, the 14:55 is worth arranging the day around.

Now the limits of that list. The sheet exists to show the urban connections in Sciacca, so it prints only the runs that have one. Local press mentions other departures, including evening ones; we could not confirm any on an official source, so they are not printed here. No seasonal variation is published either, and the Gallo site has no static timetable board.

One contradiction deserves a phone call rather than a guess. The airport says tickets for Sciacca are bought on board only; Gallo's Carta della Mobilità says they are sold at its offices, at authorised resellers and on board, and that all services operate with compulsory reservation. The numbers that settle it: +39 091 6171141, published by the airport beside the Sciacca route, and the Gallo call centre on 091 2742800. If you prefer a counter, Gallo's is at the Terminal Bus in Via Fazello in Palermo (Mon–Fri 05:45–19:30, Sat 06:30–19:30, Sun 08:00–11:00 and 13:00–19:00), and in Sciacca at Sciacca Oil in Via Lioni, daily 04:30–21:30.

Matched to real flights: before about 06:30 take the 07:50, late morning the 11:30, early afternoon the 14:55. Land later, or after midday on a Sunday, and the verified list is empty — and remember reclaim and the walk to the far bay come out of your margin.

Departures from the official Gallo connections PDF; sales channels and compulsory reservation from the Gallo Carta della Mobilità; ticket offices from Gallo — Biglietterie. Checked 12 August 2026.

The last stretch east, which is why this page exists

The coach ends at Via Lioni. Your address is further east along the coast, out on the SS115: the 15.8 km the routing measures from the terminal to the mouth of the Fiume Verdura is the order of magnitude of that leg. Here is how far public transport carries you that way, and where it stops.

Sciacca's urban network is run by AEternal Soc. Coop. Autotrasporti: five lines plus a school run. Only one weekday line goes east to the shore, Line 4, published as "Porta Palermo – SciaccaMare – Ospedale – Porta Palermo". The SciaccaMare stop is mapped in Via Fratelli Lo Boj, contrada Isabella (37.5070 N, 13.1181 E), 4.96 km and about 8 minutes by car from the terminal.

That is where the network ends. From SciaccaMare to the mouth of the Fiume Verdura there are still 11.8 km, about 23 minutes by car, on extra-urban SS115 with no pavement. It is not a distance you walk, and certainly not with two cases and a golf travel bag.

We went looking for anything else out there. Querying OpenStreetMap for every mapped bus stop in the coastal box east of Sciaccamare returns exactly one: "per Agrigento e Trapani", operator autolineelumia.it, at 37.4881 N 13.2343 E, about 17 km from Via Lioni towards the SS386 junction for Ribera — with no published timetable saying which runs call there.

We also looked for a shuttle or shared taxi between Via Lioni and the coast east of town. No official source describes one. That is not proof none exists — ask your accommodation, because a hotel car never appears in a public timetable. It does mean that if nobody is collecting you, the last stretch east is yours to solve: a hire car, a taxi at the terminal, or a car booked before you left home.

Network and Line 4 from AEternal — Orari e Percorsi; the 4.96 km to SciaccaMare and the 11.8 km from there to the river mouth from OSRM routing on OpenStreetMap data; the mapped stop from an Overpass API query. Checked 12 August 2026.

Five minutes: the connection margin in Sciacca

Gallo and AEternal do coordinate, and the sheet proves it. Each airport coach has an urban departure from Via Lioni minutes after it lands: 10:35 → Line 4 at 10:40, 14:20 → Line 4 at 14:25, 16:40 → Line 1 at 16:45, all towards Porta Palermo in the historic centre. On Sundays and holidays the 15:10 arrival connects with Line F at 15:20 — Porta Palermo – C.da Foggia – Villa Comunale – Sciaccamare – Cimitero – Ospedale – Capolinea, the only holiday service that touches the coastal strip at all.

The weekday margin is five minutes: after a coach ride of up to 2 h 50, with luggage to pull out of the hold, that is a coin toss, and if you miss it you are at Via Lioni with no published information about the next departure, because AEternal publishes routes but neither timetables nor fares. And even a perfect connection does not reach your destination: on both routes Sciaccamare is a stop along the way, not a terminus, and it is the furthest east either line goes — from there the mouth of the Fiume Verdura is still 11.8 km on.

The two-leg alternative through Palermo city

If your flight lands outside the published coach departures, the journey has a second shape: airport to Palermo city, then south. The airport leg is the easiest piece of transport in western Sicily. The Prestia e Comandè shuttle links Palermo airport to Palermo Centrale in 50 minutes, every 30 minutes from 05:05 to 01:05, all year round including holidays, ending at the Terminal Bus in Via T. Fazello — the same street as the coach terminal and the Gallo ticket office. Fares, adults over 13: €6.00 single and €10.00 return in advance, €6.50 and €11.00 on board in cash or by card; children 3 to 12 pay €4.00 and €8.00, under-3s travel free, weekly 12-trip pass €30.60.

What we cannot give you with the same confidence is the second leg: the sheet we verified covers departures from the airport, not from the city terminal, and Gallo publishes no static board for Via Fazello. So this is a real option for a late landing — realistically with a night in Palermo — but confirm the onward departure by phone or at the counter before you commit to it.

Shuttle times from Prestia e Comandè, fares from the official Linea Palermo Aeroporto fare sheet (July 2026). Checked 12 August 2026.

There is no train, and there has not been since 1986

This needs saying plainly, because planners still suggest it. Sciacca has no active railway station. It had one: opened 21 February 1914 on the 950 mm narrow-gauge Castelvetrano–Porto Empedocle line, closed 1 January 1986, the building now disused and sold into private hands.

The end came in stages: the Ribera–Porto Empedocle section including Sciacca was suspended between December 1977 and January 1978, then closed and replaced by road services, and the whole line stopped on 31 December 1985 — with replacement buses badly matched to the trains, a complaint that will feel familiar by the end of this page. Law 128/2017 listed 23 km of the alignment among railways that could reopen for tourist use, but no service has been restored, and the only trace on a map is "Ex Stazione di Capo San Marco" in Via Maragani, recorded as a former yard. Any itinerary offering a train to Sciacca is wrong; the nearest useful railhead is Palermo Centrale, from where you are on a coach anyway.

History from Wikipedia — Stazione di Sciacca and Ferrovia Castelvetrano-Porto Empedocle, secondary; the former yard from OpenStreetMap / Nominatim. Checked 12 August 2026.

Golf bags, cases, and what nobody publishes

This is where a lot of travel writing invents a reassurance. We will not. We found no published luggage allowance for this route in the sources behind this page. Nothing we read says two golf travel bags are accepted on a scheduled coach, and nothing says they are refused. If your plan depends on it, call before you fly: +39 091 6171141 or 091 2742800.

Same discipline for the rest of the corridor. Autolinee Lumia runs the coastal Trapani–Sciacca–Agrigento axis on the SS115, with timetables in force from 10 June 2026, and warns in writing to get your ticket or exact change before boarding; its Sciacca office is at Via Lioni 11 (0925 21135). Whether its coaches make request stops east of Sciacca is not documented anywhere.

When you do not need a private transfer

We sell private transfers, and would still rather you spent the money on dinner if the coach does the job. Take the Gallo coach if:

  • You are one or two people with hand luggage or one case each, on a weekday, landing in time for a published departure. A scheduled coach against any car is not a close contest on price.
  • You are stopping in Sciacca town first. The terminal is in town and the urban connections run towards Porta Palermo and the historic centre; our Palermo Airport to Sciacca guide covers that version in detail.
  • You are collecting a hire car anyway. The last stretch east on the SS115 then costs you the drive and nothing else.
  • Your accommodation is collecting you. Ask before booking anything else: a hotel car never appears in a public timetable, and it makes this page academic.
  • You are travelling light and the 14:55 fits. At 1 h 45 it is the fastest run on the published sheet.

When a car with a driver earns its place

The honest case is narrow, and almost entirely about the final stretch and the clock:

  • Your address is east of Sciacca. No scheduled service goes east of the SciaccaMare stop, where the road runs on another 11.8 km just to reach the mouth of the Fiume Verdura, and no shuttle out there appears in any public source we found. That is the whole argument, and it is a strong one.
  • You are carrying golf bags or more than one case each. We found no published luggage allowance on this corridor; a booked vehicle counts your bags before you pay.
  • You land on a Sunday or holiday. One verified coach at 12:40, and it still sets you down in town, short of the coast east of Sciacca.
  • You land outside the published departures, or your flight is likely to slip. The pickup is scheduled on your real landing time rather than on a printed departure, and the waiting included is the one set out in the booking conditions.
  • You are three or more, or travelling with children. Multiply a coach fare by four, add a change with a five-minute margin, and the comparison stops being about money.
  • You want the price settled before you travel. On a private transfer from Palermo Airport to Verdura Resort it is fixed per vehicle and confirmed at booking — no meter, no fare negotiated at a coach terminal with luggage at your feet.

What you do not get is a faster trip than the 14:55 coach as far as Sciacca. What you get is the leg after it, in the same vehicle.

What to check on the day you travel

Everything above was verified on 12 August 2026, and Sicilian timetables move with the seasons. Check five things before you leave:

  • The Gallo departures for your day of the week, on the operator's connections page.
  • Ticketing and reservation, on +39 091 6171141 or 091 2742800 — the airport says on board only, the charter says reservation is compulsory.
  • Luggage, if you are carrying golf bags or anything oversized. We could not find a published allowance for this route.
  • Your realistic arrival time, after reclaim rather than the scheduled landing, against 07:50, 11:30 and 14:55 — or 12:40 on a Sunday.
  • How you are covering the last stretch east from Via Lioni. That is the question this page exists to make you ask before you are standing at the terminal with it unanswered.

One vehicle, all the way past Sciacca

A private transfer from Palermo Airport to Verdura Resort puts a driver in arrivals with your name, schedules the pickup on your real flight time and carries cases and golf bags to the door — including the stretch of SS115 east of Via Lioni where no scheduled bus goes. Fixed price per vehicle, confirmed at booking, with the waiting set out in the booking conditions.

How do I get from Palermo airport to Verdura Resort in Sciacca?

+
Autolinee Gallo runs a direct coach from Palermo Falcone e Borsellino to the Terminal in Via Lioni, Sciacca, published by the airport as 1 hour 50 minutes, leaving from the last bay at the airport exit. Published departures are 07:50, 11:30 and 14:55 Monday to Saturday, and 12:40 on Sundays and public holidays. From Via Lioni the SS115 runs on east with no scheduled bus covering it: the routing measures 15.8 km and about 27 minutes by car from the terminal to the mouth of the Fiume Verdura, which is the closest point on that coast we can cite from public data rather than a distance to a resort gate. For that leg you need a hire car, a taxi arranged at the terminal, a car sent by your accommodation, or a pre-booked private transfer. Verified on aeroportodipalermo.it and autolineegallo.it on 12 August 2026.

Is there a bus from Palermo airport to Verdura Resort?

+
No bus reaches the coast east of Sciacca. The Gallo coach ends at the Via Lioni terminal in Sciacca. From there the urban network run by AEternal has one weekday line going east to the shore, Line 4, published as Porta Palermo - SciaccaMare - Ospedale - Porta Palermo; the SciaccaMare stop is 4.96 km from the terminal, and on both that line and the Sunday Line F it is a stop along the route rather than the terminus, the furthest east either goes. Beyond it the road runs another 11.8 km, about 23 minutes by car, of extra-urban SS115 with no pavement before it even reaches the mouth of the Fiume Verdura. OpenStreetMap maps a single bus stop in that whole coastal strip, labelled per Agrigento e Trapani and operated by Autolinee Lumia, with no published timetable saying which runs call there. The official Gallo connections sheet lists three weekday runs, Monday to Saturday: 07:50 arriving 10:35, 11:30 arriving 14:20 and 14:55 arriving 16:40. On Sundays and public holidays it shows one run, 12:40 arriving 15:10. The afternoon departure takes 1 hour 45 minutes, the two morning ones nearly three hours. That sheet prints only the runs with an urban connection in Sciacca; local press mentions other departures, including evening ones, which no official source confirms, so check by phone on +39 091 6171141 or 091 2742800. Verified 12 August 2026.

How much is the bus from Palermo airport to Sciacca?

+
Autolinee Gallo publishes no fare for this route, neither on its website nor in its Carta della Mobilita, and the airport states that tickets for Sciacca are bought on board only, while the operator's charter says all services run with compulsory reservation. Ask on +39 091 6171141 or 091 2742800 before you travel. For comparison, the one published fare on this journey is the Prestia e Comande shuttle between the airport and Palermo Centrale: 6.00 EUR single and 10.00 EUR return for adults bought in advance, 6.50 EUR and 11.00 EUR on board, 4.00 EUR and 8.00 EUR for children aged 3 to 12. Checked 12 August 2026.

Is there a train to Sciacca?

+
No. Sciacca has no active railway station. The station opened on 21 February 1914 on the 950 mm narrow-gauge Castelvetrano to Porto Empedocle line and service ceased on 1 January 1986; the building is disused and was sold into private hands. Law 128/2017 listed 23 km of the abandoned alignment among railways that could reopen for tourist use, but no service has been restored. Any journey planner offering a train to Sciacca is wrong: the nearest useful railhead is Palermo Centrale, and the onward leg is by coach. Sources checked 12 August 2026.

How long does it take to drive from Palermo airport to Verdura Resort?

+
We could not source an official distance or driving time for this route, so this page does not print one: run your own routing before you plan around a number. What is published: the airport times the Autolinee Gallo coach from Palermo Falcone e Borsellino to Sciacca at 1 hour 50 minutes, and the official connections sheet shows 1 hour 45 minutes on the 14:55 departure against nearly three hours on the morning ones. East of the Via Lioni terminal, OSRM routing over OpenStreetMap data checked 12 August 2026 measures 15.8 km and about 27 minutes by car as far as the mouth of the Fiume Verdura, the closest point on that coast citable from public data rather than a distance to a resort gate.
