- The season: the branch is summer only. Queried for 20 September, 14 October and 18 November 2026, the official engine returns no solution at all

How far Marzamemi really is from Palermo
Marzamemi is a fishing village in the comune of Pachino, at the far south-eastern tip of Sicily, past Noto and past the Vendicari reserve. Palermo airport is at Punta Raisi, on the north-western coast. Between them: 330.7 kilometres and about 4 hours 24 minutes of driving without traffic, calculated with OSRM, the OpenStreetMap routing engine, on the official coordinates of the Interbus stop in the village, checked 12 August 2026. An indicative driving time, not a promise.
Put that next to the alternatives. From Marzamemi, Catania Fontanarossa is 103.7 km and about 1h32; Comiso is 83.1 km and about 1h38, nearer in kilometres and slower on the road, because down there the roads are provincial rather than fast. Palermo is more than three times further than Catania.
Let us be straight about this page. Nobody flies into Palermo in order to reach Marzamemi. People do it for a wedding in the Val di Noto with the cheap flight landing at PMO, for a family house down south, or for a fortnight that starts in the west. If your flight is not booked, read the Catania section first.
The through bus: one ticket, one change, and it works
The good news first: Interbus sells a single through ticket from Palermo to Marzamemi, and in summer the connection is built into the timetable. The first leg is line IN12, marked "SIRACUSA – PALERMO", from PALERMO – Fazello Staz. FS in Via Paolo Fazello, the forecourt of Palermo Centrale station, with a second stop in Via Oreto 389 five minutes later. It runs to Siracusa, Corso Umberto 196, where you change onto the Siracusa–Marzamemi–Portopalo service on the same ticket. For 13 August 2026 the official engine returned three solutions: 08:00→13:10, 11:00→16:10 and 14:00→19:10. About 5 hours 10 minutes from the Palermo stop to the village — before getting out of the airport.
The fare is €15.20 single, the same online as at the counter; a return is €24.20 at the ticket office and €22.00 on the web, one of the rare cases where the internet price is lower. Worth knowing: €15.20 is also the fare for Palermo to Siracusa on its own, so the continuation to Marzamemi costs nothing extra. And it runs on Ferragosto: checked for 15 August 2026, the engine still returned the same three departures.

The season trap, and it is a big one
Now the part no aggregator tells you. The Marzamemi branch is seasonal, marked in the Interbus system as valid "al 14/9/26" — until 14 September 2026. We queried the official engine for 20 September, 14 October and 18 November 2026. All three returned zero Palermo–Marzamemi solutions. Not a slower one, not one with an extra change. None.
What survives is the trunk. Palermo–Siracusa on IN12 runs all year: four departures at 08:00, 11:00, 14:00 and 17:00, arriving at Corso Umberto 196 after 3h20, identical on 13 August, 14 October and 18 November 2026, at the same €15.20 single.
The leg that disappears is the last one. In summer there are five direct Siracusa–Marzamemi runs a day (08:40, 09:40, 11:40, 14:40, 17:40 from Corso Umberto 196), 1h30 to 1h40, €5.30. On 14 October and 18 November: none. Out of season the village is still reachable from closer in:
- From Noto: €2.90 single, €4.80 return, about 35 minutes from Noto Via Principe di Piemonte. Around eleven direct runs a day in summer; on 14 October and 18 November only three survive — 11:05→11:40, 16:05→16:40, 19:05→19:40.
- From Pachino: €1.00 single, €2.00 return, exactly 10 minutes from Pachino Via Unità to Marzamemi Via Calleri 15. Off season, the same three slots — 11:30→11:40, 16:30→16:40, 19:30→19:40 — plus morning runs.
An autumn arrival at Palermo therefore means building the journey yourself: coach to Siracusa arriving 11:20 at the earliest, your own arrangement onward to Noto or Pachino, then one of three daily runs into the village. We have not verified the Siracusa–Noto leg out of season and we will not guess — check it for your date before trusting a plan that rests on three connections.

From the terminal to the bus stop: the leg nobody prices
Every comparison of this route forgets that the bus to the south-east does not leave from the airport. It leaves from the forecourt of Palermo Centrale, and that leg belongs in every bus figure here. Two ways to cover it.
The Prestia e Comandè shuttle. The bus stops are on the ground floor of the Arrivals Hall, on the right as you come out. The run to Palermo Centrale, Via T. Fazello, takes 50 minutes, departures are every 30 minutes, and it operates daily including public holidays: from the airport 05:05 to 01:05, towards the airport 03:30 to 21:30. Fares are €6.00 single and €10.00 return in advance, or €6.50 and €11.00 on board; children aged 3 to 12 pay €4.00 and €8.00, under-3s free. Cash or card on board, booking recommended. Its terminus is the same forecourt the Interbus leaves from, so the change is a short walk.
The train. Palermo airport has its own station, Palermo Aeroporto at Punta Raisi, with direct regional trains to Palermo Centrale for €6.80, between 51 minutes and 1h09, roughly two an hour, first at 05:18 and last at 00:20 arriving 01:07.
Now the arithmetic. Airport to Palermo Centrale, €6.00 or €6.80; Palermo to Marzamemi, €15.20. Call it €21.20 to €22.00 a head and about six hours from wheels-down to the village, if the connection lines up. Nothing on this page beats that on price.
But it has to line up, and that is where the plan breaks. The last through departure leaves Palermo at 14:00. Working backwards through a 50-minute shuttle running every half hour, plus baggage reclaim, a flight landing much after midday does not make it. Miss it and the options are a night in Palermo or a car.

The train across Sicily: why it is not a plan in 2026
People assume a journey of this length between two major Sicilian points must be a rail journey. In 2026 it is not, and the reason is on the record: RFI has closed the Caltanissetta Xirbi – Lercara Diramazione section of the Palermo–Catania line from 14 June to 13 September 2026, for maintenance of the Marianopoli tunnel and track renewal between Villalba and Valledolmo. The Palermo–Agrigento line is cut in the same window, from 15 May to 30 September.
The consequence shows up in the ticketing engine. Palermo Centrale to Siracusa takes a minimum of 4h58 to 5h09 with two changes and a replacement-bus leg — coach to Caltanissetta Xirbi, train to Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa, train to Siracusa — for €20.00. Via Messina, €13.40 to €25.20 and 6h00 to 7h48. To Noto: 6h08 to 6h20 with three changes for €22.10. And no railway reaches Marzamemi at all: Noto has a station, Siracusa has a station, the village has a bus stop. Interbus at €15.20 and 3h20 beats Trenitalia at €20.00 and 4h58, so that is what we recommend.

Arriving in Marzamemi: one stop, a walk, and no ticket office
Marzamemi has exactly one bus stop, worth knowing by name before you are on the road with a suitcase: MARZAMEMI – Via Calleri, 15, at 36.738259 N, 15.116150 E in the official Interbus stop register, with Pachino as the validation municipality. The same line has a VENDICARI stop (36.809983 N, 15.083308 E) for the nature reserve.
From Via Calleri to Piazza Regina Margherita, the square of the old tonnara, is about 500 metres in a straight line. We say "in a straight line" deliberately: there is no reliable pedestrian routing for that stretch, so we will not invent a walking time. Expect the real walk to be longer.
One thing about arriving here applies to every vehicle equally: the borgo is pedestrian. Cars stop in the car park just outside and the last stretch is done on foot, whether you came by coach, by hire car or with a driver. What changes is how far you carry the cases, and at what hour.
A warning for the way back: there is no Interbus ticket office in Marzamemi. Buy the return online or in the app, or at Tabaccheria Intersimone, Via Giuseppe Garibaldi 63 in Pachino (tel. 0931 593343), open 6.00–13.00 and 16.00–20.00.

If the flight is not booked yet: Catania changes everything
Catania Fontanarossa is 103.7 km and about 1h32 from Marzamemi, against 330.7 km and about 4h24 from Palermo. More importantly, Catania has what Palermo does not: a direct Interbus service from the arrivals terminal to Marzamemi, line IN01, "PORTOPALO–PACHINO–SIRACUSA–CATANIA–PALERMO". Exactly 2 hours, €9.60 single and €14.10 return. On 12 August 2026 it ran seven times direct — 08:40, 09:40, 12:40, 16:40, 17:40, 18:40, 20:40 — but only four on Sunday 16 August and three on 14 October (09:40, 14:40, 17:40): the seasonal thinning applies here too. Catania airport also has its own railway station, with direct trains to Siracusa at €8.80 in 58 minutes to 1h22, about eight a day, and to Noto in 2h22 to 2h47 with a change, €10.50.
Comiso (CIY) is the other candidate: 83.1 km from Marzamemi but about 1h38 of driving. In 2026 it serves twelve destinations — Bologna, Katowice, Lille, Milan Linate, Milan Malpensa, Paris Orly, Pisa, Prague, Rome Fiumicino, Tirana, Turin, Verona. No official source confirms a public transport link from Comiso to Marzamemi or Pachino, so treat it as an airport you arrive at with a car arranged.
And if Palermo is fixed, there is a third route. SAIS Autolinee runs Palermo to Catania airport at €14.00 a single, from the same Via Tommaso Fazello terminal Interbus uses and from Via Oreto 385, with tickets online, in the SAIS app, at the ticket office or on 091 2776999; from Catania airport you pick up the direct IN01. Caveat: SAIS does not publish a readable timetable for that line, so we cannot give you departure times — ask before relying on it.

When you do not need a private transfer
We sell private transfers and we would rather keep your trust than sell you one you do not need. On this route the coach is a real option, and for plenty of people the better one. Take Interbus if:
- You are one or two people with light luggage between mid-June and 14 September. About €21.20 a head against any car is not a close contest.
- You land in the morning. The 08:00 and 11:00 departures leave margin and put you there in daylight.
- You were stopping in Siracusa or Noto anyway. The through fare is the same as the fare to Siracusa alone, and breaking a five-hour journey in Siracusa makes a better holiday than not breaking it.
- Budget matters more than the clock. Five hours on a coach with the sea on the left is not a punishment.
If that is you, buy on interbus.it before you fly and allow yourself a spare shuttle departure.
When a car with a driver earns its place
The honest case for a private transfer from Palermo Airport to Marzamemi is narrow but real, and it is about the calendar and the load rather than the distance:
- You are a wedding party or a group. Formalwear, gifts, six people and their cases through two bus changes is a bad start to a good weekend.
- You are landing in the afternoon or evening. After 14:00 the through bus is finished for the day and there is no evening service to build on.
- You are travelling outside the summer season, when the through connection is simply absent from the timetable.
- Children, a pushchair, a car seat, or someone who cannot manage changes and a walk. Five hours, a pavement change in Siracusa and a walk into a pedestrian village is a lot to ask of a five-year-old.
- You are not going to Marzamemi itself but to a masseria or villa between Noto, Pachino and Portopalo. Those addresses have no bus stop.
- You want the pickup settled before you fly. The pickup time is agreed when you book, together with the price, and the waiting time is the one set out in the booking conditions — not left to whichever coach still has seats when you land.
What you get is one vehicle per party — or as many vehicles as the group needs, priced per vehicle — from the terminal to the edge of the village, a driver meeting you in arrivals, luggage counted in advance, and a fixed price confirmed at booking: no meter, with the 20% night supplement that applies to pickups between 20:00 and 08:00 already inside the price you confirm, and waiting as set out in the booking conditions. What you do not get is a cheaper journey than a €15.20 coach ticket.
What to check on the day you actually travel
Everything here was verified on 12 August 2026, and Sicilian timetables move with the season. Check four things:
- Whether the Marzamemi branch is running on your date. A blank result in the Interbus engine is the answer, not a bug.
- Your landing time against 08:00, 11:00 and 14:00 — the realistic one, with baggage reclaim and the 50-minute shuttle.
- The return leg, which must be bought before you reach Marzamemi: online, in the app, or in Pachino.
- Whether the rail works are over, if any part of your trip is by train: RFI announced the Palermo–Catania closure through 13 September 2026.
Landing at Palermo, sleeping in the south-east tonight
A private transfer from Palermo Airport to Marzamemi covers the crossing with as many vehicles as the party needs, a driver meeting you in arrivals, the pickup time agreed when you book and luggage counted in advance. The answer for afternoon landings, for groups and weddings, and for every date when the through bus does not run.
