Quick answer — Agrigento to Noto, right across the south of Sicily
- Nothing scheduled runs direct. Interbus, the only scheduled operator serving Noto, has no stop in the province of Agrigento, and SAIS sells nothing towards Noto or Siracusa. A change is compulsory.
- The public route is two buses: SAIS from Agrigento to Catania airport (€13.10, 2h40), then Interbus from the airport to Noto (€8.40, 1h25).
- Best weekday pairing: 06:45 from Piazzale Rosselli, in Noto at 11:05 — 4h20 and €21.50 in tickets, with 15 minutes to change.
- Weekends collapse. The Interbus leg drops from 10 weekday departures to 3 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday.
- The train is not a shortcut. The Agrigento line has been suspended for works since 14 June 2026; rail to Noto takes 7h55 to 13h07 with three or four changes.

There is no direct bus, and no direct train
Start with the fact that decides everything else on this page. No scheduled service goes from Agrigento to Noto in one vehicle. Not a coach, not a train. Whether some smaller carrier runs a seasonal summer link across the south we could not verify — the site of one of them would not load on 12 August 2026 — so if you see one advertised locally, confirm it with the operator itself before you build a day around it.
Interbus is the operator that serves Noto, and its published network does not contain a single stop in the province of Agrigento — zero out of the 317 stops in its timetable system. SAIS Trasporti, which does serve Agrigento, sells nothing towards Noto and nothing towards Siracusa. Two operators, two halves of the island, no overlap. Both checked on 12 August 2026, on the Interbus site and in the SAIS booking engine.
The geography explains it. The Valle dei Templi sits on the south-west coast; Noto is in the far south-east corner. Sicilian scheduled transport is a set of spokes around Palermo and Catania, not a grid, so anything crossing the south goes up to Catania first and comes back down. That detour is why the best day of the week still costs you four hours and twenty minutes by bus.
The route that works: two buses through Catania airport
The public route has one sensible shape: SAIS from Agrigento to Catania–Fontanarossa airport, then Interbus from the airport down to Noto. The airport is the interchange, not Catania city centre, and getting that wrong costs an hour.
On a weekday, the fastest pairing we found is this:
- 06:45 SAIS from Agrigento, Piazzale Rosselli → 09:25 Catania airport
- 09:40 Interbus from Catania airport → 11:05 Noto, Viale Principe di Piemonte
Four hours and twenty minutes stop to stop, €21.50 in tickets, plus the four-minute walk from the Noto terminal up to Porta Reale. The catch is in plain sight: fifteen minutes to change. Fine if you already hold the second ticket and know where the Interbus stop is. Not fine if the first bus lost ten minutes and you still have a ticket desk to find.
The version with margin is the earlier one: SAIS at 05:00, at the airport at 07:40, Interbus at 08:40, in Noto at 10:05. Both pairings checked on the operators' own timetables on 12 August 2026, for travel on 17 August 2026.
Leg one: SAIS from Piazzale Rosselli to Catania airport
The line is AGRIGENTO–CANICATTÌ–CALTANISSETTA–APT–CATANIA. A single costs €13.10, the same on every departure, and the standard running time to the airport is 2h40. One run, the 04:30, does it in 2h20. There are two intermediate stops: Canicattì–Carlino, in Via Regione Siciliana 75, and Caltanissetta, Piazzale Rochester.
It leaves from Piazzale Rosselli, Agrigento's coach terminus, not the railway station. Type "Agrigento station" into a map app and you may be sent to the wrong place, which on a 06:45 departure is not a recoverable mistake.
It is frequent on weekdays and thinner on Sundays. SAIS runs 22 departures Monday to Friday, the first at 02:30 and the last at 20:00. Saturday follows the weekday timetable exactly. Sunday drops to 12 departures, first at 05:00 and last at 19:00. The fare does not change with the day.
Get off at the airport. The bus calls at Catania–Fontanarossa and only then carries on into the city, to Piazza Borsellino and the Via D'Amico terminus. Stay on board because the city sounds more useful and you will have to come back out for the Interbus, losing your connection.
Buy online before you travel: SAIS points to online purchase for this line, and we could not confirm a staffed counter at Piazzale Rosselli, so do not plan around finding one. All of the above from the SAIS Trasporti booking engine, checked 12 August 2026.
Leg two: Interbus from Catania airport to Noto
The second bus is Interbus line IN01, Catania–Siracusa–Noto–Pachino–Portopalo. It covers Catania airport to Noto in 1h25, a single costs €8.40 and a return €13.00 — the same price online and at a ticket desk, so the only penalty for buying late is not finding a desk open.
The summer 2026 weekday departures from the airport are 08:40, 09:40, 11:40, 12:40, 14:40, 16:40, 17:40, 18:40, 19:40 and 20:40. Ten a day, roughly hourly through the middle of the day.
Read those two edges carefully, because they set the whole plan. Before 08:40 there is nothing. Taking the 02:30 SAIS out of Agrigento to be clever puts you at the airport around 05:10 with three and a half hours to kill. After 20:40 there is nothing either, so a late-afternoon SAIS can strand you at the airport overnight.
In Noto the bus makes two stops: first Viale Principe di Piemonte, then two minutes later the terminus at Viale Corrado Confalonieri 8. Get off at the first. Timetable and fares from the Interbus Noto page, checked 12 August 2026 for the week of 17–23 August 2026.
Buy the Interbus ticket before you reach the stop
This is the most common way to miss the second bus. Interbus does not sell tickets on board: without a valid travel document you cannot be admitted.
Three ways to hold a ticket first: the Interbus website, the Interbus app, or an authorised outlet. The useful outlets here are:
- Catania airport — SEIM S.r.l., in the arrivals terminal forecourt (tel. 3483921803).
- Siracusa — SEIM S.r.l., Corso Umberto I 200, a few metres from the stop.
- Noto — Lauretta Tabacchi, Via Napoli 1 (tel. 327 0207490), open 8:00–13:00 and 16:00–20:00. That is the one that matters for your return.

Saturday and Sunday: the timetable that disappears
Here is the part that catches people who checked the timetable on a Tuesday and travelled on a Sunday. Interbus goes from 10 weekday departures to 3 at the weekend. On both Saturday and Sunday there are exactly three buses from Catania airport to Noto: 08:40, 11:40 and 17:40.
SAIS is kinder — Saturday is a full weekday timetable, Sunday still has 12 departures — which only means the second leg is the bottleneck. On a Sunday the arithmetic runs like this, on the published 2h40 running time: the 05:00 from Agrigento reaches the airport at 07:40, in time for the 08:40, and you are in Noto at 10:05. Miss it and the next option is the 11:40, then nothing until 17:40.
On a weekend, pick the Interbus departure first and work backwards to the SAIS. The other way round is how people end up with four hours in an airport.
Why the train is not an option from Agrigento, and where it still is
Since 14 June 2026 rail traffic has been suspended for works between Agrigento Centrale and Termini Imerese, between Agrigento Centrale and Caltanissetta Centrale, and between Termini Imerese and Caltanissetta Xirbi. Regional trains on those sections are cancelled and replaced by buses. Leaving Agrigento by train currently means leaving Agrigento by bus. Trenitalia publishes a start date but no end date, so check the planned works page before assuming anything has reopened. Checked 12 August 2026.
The consequence is brutal. A search for Agrigento Centrale to Noto on 17 August 2026 returns journeys of 7h55 to 13h07 with three or four changes — Caltanissetta Xirbi, Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa, Siracusa — priced between €20.00 and €52.00. Slower than the two buses, and barely cheaper.
Rail does work on the last stretch, worth knowing if you reach the south-east some other way. Siracusa to Noto by regional train takes 32 to 37 minutes and costs €4.80, beating the Interbus bus on the same pair (55–57 minutes, €3.60 single, €5.90 return) on time if not on price.
The problem is frequency. On weekdays only seven trains a day reach Noto from Siracusa, leaving at 05:29, 14:45, 15:40, 17:15, 17:33, 17:39 and 20:33 — more than nine hours between the first and the second — and the 09:25 in the timetable is a replacement bus, not a train. On Sundays and holidays between 14 June and 3 October 2026 the service doubles into a two-hourly pattern: from Siracusa at 08:12, 10:12, 12:12, 14:12, 16:12, 18:12 and 20:12, arriving 35 minutes later. On a Sunday the train beats the bus, which runs three times that day (RFI arrivals board for Noto, checked 12 August 2026).
One warning on that line: works on the Siracusa–Modica–Gela route have been under way since 15 June 2026, trains R 12916 and R 12929 are replaced by buses, and in Noto the replacement bus does not call at the railway station — it stops in Via Pola 1 (Trenitalia planned works, checked 12 August 2026).
Where you actually land in Noto, and how far you still walk
Noto is built on a slope, and every arrival point sits below the monumental centre. What separates them is how much of that slope you climb with your luggage.
Interbus, Viale Principe di Piemonte. The Noto bus terminal, at the end of the Giardino Pubblico. From there it is about 254 metres, four minutes on foot, to Porta Reale, the gate at the bottom of Corso Vittorio Emanuele, and about 470 metres, six or seven minutes, to the Cattedrale di San Nicolò. This is the best arrival point in town.
Interbus, Viale Corrado Confalonieri. The terminus, two minutes further on. Stay on board and you pay about 857 metres uphill, roughly eleven minutes, to reach the same gate.
Noto railway station. Also on Viale Principe di Piemonte, but much lower down: about 1.15 km uphill, sixteen minutes, to Porta Reale, and about 1.26 km to the Cathedral. The bus drops you considerably closer to the Corso than the train does. Distances measured on the OpenStreetMap pedestrian network (Noto bus terminal node), checked 12 August 2026.
One thing applies to everyone, including anyone arriving by car. The monumental stretch of Corso Vittorio Emanuele, from Porta Reale up to Piazza XVI Maggio — about 500 metres — is mapped as a pedestrian street. No car, taxi or private vehicle drives it: whatever you arrive in stops at the edge, and the last stretch is on foot. Parking and access rules for the surrounding streets are not set out in any current official page we could find, so ask your accommodation where a vehicle can stop to unload.
Driving it yourself: one road across the interior
By road you cross the interior of the island instead of going up to Catania and coming back down, which is the detour the two buses are forced to make. We are not quoting a distance or a driving time here, because we have no verified measurement for this pair and an invented one would be worth nothing on an August afternoon: put the two addresses into a routing app on the day you travel and take its estimate, traffic included.
Set that against the public option honestly. The two buses do it in four hours and twenty minutes on the best weekday pairing, and that is a decent number. What you actually buy by driving is the hours you are allowed to leave: no 08:40 floor, no 20:40 ceiling, no weekend timetable, no fifteen-minute change with cases.
A rental car is right if you are going to tour the Val di Noto afterwards. It is wrong if Noto is a base you intend to walk, because then it spends four days parked outside a pedestrian centre while you pay for it.
When you do not need a private transfer
We sell private transfers, and this is a route where the buses are genuinely decent. Take them and keep the difference if:
- You are one or two people with light luggage. €21.50 each, on two buses, is very hard to beat with any car.
- You are travelling Monday to Saturday. SAIS runs a full weekday timetable on Saturday, and the Interbus weekday grid gives you ten chances.
- You can start early. The 05:00 or 06:45 out of Piazzale Rosselli sets up a comfortable connection and gets you to Noto before lunch.
- You are collecting a rental car at Catania airport anyway. You are already going to the interchange.
- You are relaxed about a 15-minute connection and have bought both tickets in advance.
If that is you, book the SAIS online, buy the Interbus ticket the night before, and get off at Viale Principe di Piemonte. That is the entire plan, and it works.
When a car with a driver earns its place
The honest case is about the calendar and the load rather than the distance:
- You are travelling on a Saturday or a Sunday. Three Interbus departures a day means the whole journey is dictated by 08:40, 11:40 or 17:40.
- You need to move outside 08:40 and 20:40. Those are the first and last Interbus departures from the airport; outside them the two-bus route does not exist.
- You are three or more with cases. Multiply €21.50 by four, add a change at an airport, and the comparison stops being about money.
- Children, a pushchair, or anyone who cannot manage an uphill walk with luggage. Noto's arrival points are all below the centre.
- You want to stop on the way. One vehicle, your timing, a break where you choose it.
- You are connecting from a flight or a ship. Pickup is scheduled on the real arrival time you give us, not on a timetable printed months ago.
What a private transfer from Agrigento to Noto gives you is one vehicle, no interchange, luggage counted per vehicle before you book, and a fixed price confirmed at booking — you see it and accept it before paying anything. Night and very early departures can carry a supplement; where one applies it is inside the price you confirm, not added at the door. Waiting time is what the booking conditions state, and the driver stops at the edge of the pedestrian Corso, because nobody gets closer.
Getting back: the return is thinner than the outbound
Plan the return before you leave: it is the weaker direction. Interbus runs 12 weekday departures from Noto to Catania airport, between 06:00 and 19:00, from Viale Principe di Piemonte, taking the same 1h25. On Saturday there are only three — 12:00, 18:00 and 19:00 — and on Sunday five.
Buy that ticket at Lauretta Tabacchi in Via Napoli 1, inside its 8:00–13:00 and 16:00–20:00 hours, or online the day before. There is no sale on board.
For the second half, note that the SAIS timetable quoted here is for the Agrigento to Catania direction. The opposite direction is a different grid: check it in the SAIS booking engine for your date rather than assuming it mirrors the outbound.
What to check on the day you travel
Everything here was verified on 12 August 2026. Four things move:
- Your day of the week against the Interbus grid. Ten departures on a weekday, three at the weekend.
- The state of the Agrigento rail works. Suspended since 14 June 2026 with no published end date; if the line reopens, the comparison changes.
- Both tickets, bought in advance. Interbus does not sell on board, and SAIS points to online purchase for this line.
- The connection at Catania airport. Fifteen minutes works only if you hold the second ticket and know where the stop is.
Crossing the island in one vehicle
A private transfer from Agrigento to Noto crosses the island in one go, with no interchange at Catania airport, on a weekend as easily as on a Tuesday. Pickup is scheduled at the time you set, luggage is counted per vehicle in advance, and the price is fixed and confirmed before you pay.
