Two Different Questions, One Coach Line
People searching for this bus are in one of two situations: just landed at Catania Fontanarossa with a suitcase, or already in Catania and heading up the coast.
One line answers both. The direct coach is sold by two companies of the same group: Etna Trasporti as line ET07, timetabled as «TAORMINA – CATANIA – APT FONTANAROSSA», and Interbus as line IN14, «TAORMINA – CATANIA – SIRACUSA – PORTOPALO». Both names are written from the Taormina end, which is why they look unfamiliar at the airport. On a mid-August weekday Etna Trasporti runs 29 of the 44 departures and Interbus the other 15, so either livery can turn up on the same line. Your ticket, though, is sold for one departure and one company: buy it for the run you actually want and check the name printed on it before you board.
What changes is where you get on, and therefore which line of the timetable you read. The airport stop and the city stops sit on the same run — a quarter of an hour apart on the departure we checked — and they are not interchangeable.
From Catania Airport: EUR 7.00 and No Change of Vehicle
If you have just landed, this is the straightforward one: €7.00 one way, €14.00 return, 80 to 90 minutes, most runs scheduled at 85, one vehicle the whole way. The fare is the same on ET07 and IN14, and the web fare («Corsa semplice Web») is also €7.00 — buying online costs nothing extra.
The stop is registered in the Sicilian regional stop database as «AEROPORTO CATANIA – Terminal Arrivi», code CT_14, on the Arrivals side of the terminal. The official record names no numbered bay, so allow a couple of minutes outside Arrivals and confirm the line with the driver.
Direct does not mean non-stop. A typical morning run leaves the airport at 07:15, calls at Via Archimede coach station at 07:30, Viale della Libertà 182 at 07:32 and Piazza Michelangelo at 07:40, then Taormina Capotaormina at 08:35 and Tombe Bizantine at 08:38, reaching Taormina Terminal Bus at 08:40. That is why the first half-hour feels slow: you are still in Catania, collecting the passengers this article’s other half is about. From Catania City: Board at Via Archimede
If you are staying in Catania, you do not go out to the airport to catch this coach. You join it in town. On the departure we checked, the stops the operators’ system listed inside Catania were Via Archimede coach station, Viale della Libertà 182 and Piazza Michelangelo, in that order — the timetable is built run by run, so read the stop list of your own departure rather than assuming every coach calls at all three.
On the run we checked, Via Archimede is fifteen minutes after the airport departure and roughly 70 minutes from Taormina (07:30 to 08:40); from Piazza Michelangelo the same run took an hour. They come from one documented departure — the shape of the journey, not a promise for every run.
One thing we did not check and will not invent: the fare from the city stops. The €7.00 single is the airport fare; we have no figure for a coach boarded in town, and we are not going to assume it is the same one. Put your actual boarding stop into the search on interbus.it or etnatrasporti.it and read the fare it returns — it is the only number that will be true on your date.

Alibus Is Not the Taormina Bus
At Catania Airport there are two different things people call «the bus», and this trips up more travellers than any timetable does.
Alibus is the AMTS city line. The ticket is €4.00, valid 90 minutes on Alibus and on all other AMT urban lines. It runs from 04:40 to 00:30, the same timetable on weekdays and on Sundays and holidays, and in the current summer booklet the real interval is 18 minutes for most of the day, widening to 20–25 minutes early and late. AMTS states that on every run Catania Centrale is reached 15 minutes after departure from the airport. It leaves from the forecourt in front of the old terminal building, not the kerb of the current one (amts.ct.it, checked 11 August 2026).
Alibus takes you into Catania, not to Taormina, and ordinary AMT tickets, day tickets and metro tickets are explicitly not valid on it. The Taormina coach is the ET07 / IN14 above, from the Arrivals stop, at €7.00. Alibus is right in one case: you are stopping in Catania for lunch or an afternoon before heading north.
Timetable: 44 Departures in August, 23 in November
Frequency is this coach’s strongest argument in summer and its weakest in winter.

In August you do not plan around this timetable. Departures run roughly every 15 minutes through the morning and every 30 minutes from early afternoon: clear the terminal, walk to the stop, wait a few minutes.
In November the same booking system shows 23 departures instead of 44, with the same 07:15 first coach but a last one at 19:45. That is a three-hour cliff edge, and it catches people who read a summer article in October. Travelling outside high season and landing in the evening? Check your date in the operator’s system before assuming there is a coach at all. Nothing there suggests a night service in either season: in mid-August the last coach arrives at 00:10 and the schedule is empty until morning.
Tickets: Buy Before You Reach the Stop
Both companies say the same thing in writing: «Ricorda di acquistare il tuo biglietto prima di recarti in fermata» — buy before going to the stop. The three channels they publish are the operator website, the Interbus / Etna Trasporti app and authorised ticket offices («biglietterie abilitate»): interbus.it/dove-acquistare, checked 11 August 2026.
Neither company states anywhere on its public pages whether the driver sells tickets, or at what price, so we are not going to guess for you. Buy in the app while you wait for your bag and the question does not arise.
Etna Trasporti also sells a weekly airport pass on this route, the «Turistico settimanale APT», at €39.20. Do the arithmetic first: at €7.00 a leg it only starts paying for itself from the sixth single journey, which makes it a commuter’s ticket rather than a holiday one.
Luggage is the other thing neither operator publishes: no stated allowance, no stated supplement. With one case each that has never been an issue; with four large cases, a buggy or sports equipment you find out at the hold door.
Where the Bus Leaves You in Taormina
The coach terminates at «TAORMINA – Via Pirandello – Terminal Bus», stop code ME_1228. This is the best thing about taking the bus rather than the train: the terminal is up in the town. The centre of Taormina sits at 204 metres above sea level (ISTAT altimetric data), and the coach has already done that climb for you.
From Via Pirandello you continue on foot towards Porta Messina and Corso Umberto. No official source publishes that walking route or how long it takes, and the last stretch is uphill, so we are not printing a number of minutes — check your hotel on a map first. Taormina’s side streets are stairs as often as they are streets, and a wheeled case does not care how short the distance is.
On the run we checked, the two stops before the terminus were Capotaormina and Tombe Bizantine. If you are staying down towards the sea, ask the driver whether your coach calls there: getting off early can save you a walk back downhill. Bus or Train from Catania?
From the city the train is a real competitor. Direct regional trains from Catania Centrale to Taormina-Giardini cost €5.50 and take between 36 minutes and 1h08 depending on the service; the Intercity costs €8.50 and takes 36 to 41 minutes. They run from 05:01 to 21:20, roughly every 30 to 60 minutes, plus a late Intercity Notte at 22:33 (Trenitalia booking system, checked 11 August 2026). A fast train beats the coach on paper by half an hour.
Then it puts you in the wrong place. Taormina-Giardini station is not in Taormina: the operators’ own stop database lists it as «GIARDINI NAXOS – Stazione FS», noted «Stazione FS Taormina», about 1.3 kilometres in a straight line from Taormina Terminal Bus — and down at sea level, against the 204 metres of the town centre above.
The climb is covered by the same Interbus / Etna Trasporti local buses, and the service is dense: 104 runs a day from the station up to Taormina Terminal Bus, 5 to 15 minutes, €1.10 one way and €1.70 return, from 06:05 until 23:45, with a handful of night runs after midnight. So the train works: two vehicles and two tickets instead of one, and the time saved on the rails goes back into waiting at the bottom of the hill.
Our split: take the coach if Taormina town is your destination, especially with luggage. Take the train for Giardini Naxos, the beach, or a day continuing north along the coast — sea level is a drawback for Taormina and an advantage for everywhere else on that shore.
When the Bus Is Not the Right Choice
We sell private transfers, and we are not going to pretend a €7.00 coach every 15 minutes is a compromise. For most people it is the right answer. There are, though, situations where the timetable has no answer:
- You land after the last coach. 22:45 in mid-August, 19:45 in mid-November, and no night service. A delayed evening flight can put you on the wrong side of that line with nothing scheduled left.
- You fly out early. The first coach from Taormina reaches the airport at 07:40. For a flight boarding at 07:00 that is not a tight connection, it is no connection.
- There are four of you. Four singles are €28.00 and you still arrive at Via Pirandello with the bags and the uphill stretch ahead.
- Your luggage is not standard. No published allowance means no guarantee: a buggy, a golf bag or four large cases deserve a vehicle booked for them.
- Small children at the end of a travel day. The coach is fine; the walk from the terminal with a toddler and two cases is the part people remember.
- Your hotel is not near Via Pirandello. Taormina spreads over hairpins between the sea and the ridge. The terminal is one fixed point; your door may be a lot of steps from it.
In those cases a private transfer is not an upgrade on the bus, it is a different service: the driver meets you in arrivals, watches the flight, and takes you to the door, not the terminal. Going Back: Taormina to Catania and the Airport
Do not assume the return mirrors the arrival, because the hours do not. On a mid-August weekday there are also 44 departures from Taormina Terminal Bus to the airport: first at 06:15, arriving 07:40; last at 22:45, arriving 00:10. Scheduled journey time is again 80 to 90 minutes.
Build in a margin. The coach shares the coast road and the Catania city stops with everyone else, and 85 minutes is a timetable rather than a promise: taking the departure before the one that theoretically works costs you a coffee at the airport.
